STI Injectors for MY99 ?
#1
Hi
does anybody know whether the STI-Injectors will fit to a MY99 Euro Spec?
(ST-16611AA510 Subaru Fuel System - STi Injectors 565 CC - GDA/B 02+) http://german-autowerks.com/Subaru/subeng/sti_inj_s.jpg
http://german-autowerks.com/Subaru/subeng.htm is offering them for 495$.
Are there other possibilities concerning imnjectors and where can I get those parts?
Thanks
Frank :-)

I'm affraid they won't fit. The "STi" injectors shown, are for the later cars, and are "top feed" injectors.
You would need '99~2000 phase 2 "side feed" injectors, but, do you really need them ? You have 440cc injectors, they are good for well over 300bhp.
First thing to do, is ditch the stock fuel pump, they struggle at much over 1 bar of boost. If this doesn't solve lack of fuel at the top end, and depending on how far out you are, get an adjustable fuel pressure reg', and increase the fuel pressure.
If all else fails, you can get some 550cc injectors (good for circa 390bhp).

Frank,
Sorry for taking this a little off topic, but in the past, I wanted to fit an APS FMIC and my car is LHD. The APS FMIC didn't fit LHD cars before. Do they fit now, or did you do your own mods?
Cheers,
Wrexy.

Regarding fuel, pumps I don't know too much, but Walbro fuel pumps appear to be the best from what I've gathered from reading on here.

Frank,
As Mark says - do the pump & regulator first. I'd also get a copy of DeltaDash (from www.ecutek.com) to check everything out (this will let you see what inj. duty cycle you're actually running )....if you're still on the JECS ecu?
Regardless though, logic suggests 1.2bar at 6.2k isn't going to assist with the longevity of your engine if it's still on standard internals. What problems did you have before?

Frank,
I'm not certain how you've increased boost, but I'm guessing it's some sort of bleed valve. I'd be very concerned about your fueling, and ignition, in general, if you rod broke in the circumstances you describe. Rods normally break due to being too weak for the power, or a piston seizing due to lack of oil, too much fuel bore washing, too little fuel, and or det'.
Depending on what you're intending to do, I'd leave the stock reg' for now. The pump will make a massive difference. Your stock injectors will be fine for a VF23 running 1.2bar. What you REALLY need, is an ecu remap !

Hi Mark
My car is correctly mapped with Unichip and boost module, fitted with APS-Top Mounted IC,APS-HFA Scoobysport DP and BB, producing 289PS/378Nm @~1,25bar boost.
Fuelling and ignition have always been stable and not critical.
My dealer himself was driving the car when it crashed and he told me that he could hear a kind of whistling before the damage.
Before that they had serviced the car normally with oil and ignition sparks changed etc.
He has already been driving around 20km for testing and was just on getting back to the garage...
Very strange...
Frank :-)
Mark btw: I send you an email offline as well

Frank,
Thanks for the info to my question. Lucky you knew, cos I just saw that you still have the top mount APS IC. I assumed you had changed to the FMIC.
Cheers,
Wrexy.

Hi Mark,
I am thinking about replacing the injectors because I heard that the standard ones will work with an injector duty cycle of 99%.
As my car is modified with a IHI VF23 I am a little bit afraid of a further enginge damage due to a misworking injector.
A further point is that my A/F meter shows the mixture going to lean at 6200U/min onwards @1,2 bar boost.
Which fuel pump/regulator would you advice me to fit?
Many thanks
Frank :-)

Hi
thanks all for yours help, I will follow the Fuelpump/regulator way first.
@wrexy
The APS FMIC will fit now the LHD car. I have spoken to APS and they offer the FMIC with the nessasary modification for a LHD.
This is because of their join&venture with cobbtuning in USA who actually have LHD cars.
Price is around 2200AUD afaik (+PP etc...)
@dowser
The car went very well all the time and the big end(conrod broken-block destroyed) happened @4500U/min under part throttle (0, 2 bar boost)
Yes, I agree with ypou that 1,2bar at 6200 isn't healthy at all ;-))
Cheers
