Default V1 wrx import speedo cable to electric?

Hi all

Just recently purchased a v1 import wrx loving the car but today the speedo cable on the gearbox end decided it would be funny to break, question is can I change from cable to electronic and run newer clocks? Like out of a 98 99 model sti?

I've done a search and not really coming up with much so your help is appreciated

Cheers

Well it would be possible but not worth the hassle. Why not just get a new cable and install

You need to loose that attitude!

Your is a cable operated (mechanical) speedo which connects direct to your clocks. An electronic pickup needs newer clocks as it works in pulses which are then converted to make your speedo. There will also be a raft of other parts that are different. Stick with mechanical it's not worth the hassle

I've been a member a year now and I know how running the same thread can get annoying hence why I've not spoken to anyone on here as I've used the search button!! Now that I am stuck I put a thread up i get 60 views before you kindly reply and get nothing!! So sorry if my attitude offends you but I feel offended by only 1 person of this whole site willing to help!

Hey all update and good news it's fixed, just incase anybody else has the miss fortune of there speedo cable breaking on the gearbox end and the top of the plastic has broken of we're the spanner fits use a little bit of heat but make sure you've got something to pull the plastic up like a hook so not much falls into the box. I had a mirror to so I could look at the speedo drive inside and see the threads clearly to make sure all was clear! I've used a little grease on the plastic threads for the new cable so if it goes again hopefully won't seize in place, hope this helps guys
