Hello all, need a clutch that is suitable for both road and strip, I previously had an exedy but obviously it wont put up with 400+....

have looked at ACT from america but I don't have the luxury of time if you see what I mean So, a couple of questions...

1. Which clutch to go for? I have driven a paddle clutch car and its a little awkward but I suppose I could put up with it

2. Where sells the above result?

Which Exedy clutch did you have before,as I have driven and a Exedy pink box clutch on a car with 400+Bhp,your best bet is to Talk to Alyn of ASPERFORMANCE,for advice and prices.SJ.

I have an exedy pink on my classic and it's great as a daily but perhaps not on 400+. I also have a twin plate on my S202 and it's phenomenal, but for everyday it would be quite wearing in traffic

If you are going to launch it on the drag strip then you will need a twin plate Exeddy or similar. Plenty of clutches can cope with over 400, but not if you launch it.

Why do say you do not have the luxury of time with respect to ACT? They are available here and I believe APEX supply them.
I got mine installed by Extreme Scoobies and I believe it took a week or two to come from the supplier (who's name escapes me at the mo.)
The single plate organic which I have is rated to 500lbft and is smooth although the pedal is a bit heavier.

Twin plates for launches definitely and they pull so strong as well.

When looking to get a upgraded clutch base it on your cars torque figure and how you will be driving the car I.e using the clutch,unless you are going to be launching or dragging your car a twin plate would be over kill,especially if it's you daily driver a good organic clutch from the likes of Exedy,Helix,or Act will do the job nicely.SJ.

Freind of mine has an ACT on his car, great clutch, he must have launched it atleast 30 times now, still feels like new.

5 speed or 6 speed? Exedy Racing Organic 5 speed starts to struggle much above 400bhp, 6 speed can take a fair bit more.

I used to drag race on the Exedy Racing Organic often, with 20+ hard launches on a drag day and was always faultless.

I had a similar dilemma and after much Internet searching, many calls to the many experts I went USA too. The Competition Clutch stage 2 2100 series - carbon Kevlar single plate rated to 490lbs - matched to one of their lightened flys.

I wasn't sure what to expect driving home (as they insist on 300 miles bedding in at a minimum. Wow ! Silky smooth, no noticeable increase in pedal pressure, a pleasure to use. I know Scoobyclinic and Enginetuner have these units on the shelf.
