Default Gearbox and diff match question with pics

Hi,

My gearbox is beginning to annoy me alot so i want to change it. I can get a revised gearbox but the lad doesnt has the rear diff with it. So i spend a few hours gathering information if i could use my existing diff yes or no.

Made a small xsl file

Now currently i am the one with the TY752VB4AA box (jdm sti V2 wagon)

do i need to change the diff or not if i want to go with the TY754VN1AB

regards, chris

Are you sure that TY754VN1AB has 4.111 rear diff?

I think it's 3.54

As far as I'm aware if its a VB then its a Jap gearbox with a 1:1 transfer box reduction ratio, a VN will be a UK/Euro gearbox with a 1.1:1 transfer box reduction ratio, so the rear diff will be different. This if mated to an incorrect gearbox will result in a gearbox failure.

I would try and get yours rebuilt, or get a matching diff and box.

TY 754 VN1AB ought to be a push type clutch operation and your STi 3 is pull type operation. That makes it a bit tricky to fit. PLUS the VBAAA is 4.444:1 ratio front and rear. Whereas the the VN1AB is 4.111 ratio front and rear.

There will be a better option, that one is not a great choice.
