22b or new Sti?
At present I drive a 1995 Sti2 with KW coilovers, uprated Tarox brakes and running around 300bhp but I'm finally in the fortunate position to afford a 22b which I have hankered over for years. However, the latest WRX Sti for around the same price is now tempting me. I'm drawn by the looks and the heritage of the 22b but once behind the wheel I'm more interested in what a car is like to drive and the new Sti has another 7 year's development over the 22b. I haven't had any test drives yet but I'm wondering if anyone has driven both and can let me know which is the better drive.

22B all the way. The version 8 sti is probably gonna be slightly sharper in the handling department...only slightly though. If thats an issue then the 22b can always be tweaked with some different suspension. Sat next to each other there is no competion in terms of looks...the 22b is by far the better car. Also it will hold its value much more than a new sti. I drive a P1 and have recently considered a new sti but they look pants compared to the classic shape and my P1 handles fantastically so i decided to stay put. Also do they make a 3 door version 8??!! i don't think so!! The 2.2L(22b) engine is quite easy to sqeeze a bit of extra power out of as well.... a new sti comes with 265bhp as standard??? hmmm a bit laim!
Follow your heart.... go for the ultimate, i don't think you'll regret it. The 22b is a far superior motor.

Excellent reply Sideways!
It will be a 2nd or 3rd car for me and I'm after something that is a bit wild. I've seen reports about oversteer characteristics and it being scary on the limit but to be honest I developed my driving on rear wheel drive escorts in the early eighties and therefore love sideways behaviour!

With that extra information - it has to be a 22b if you can find a good one.
If it was your only car, I'd have said a new STi, but as a 2nd/3rd car, if you're going to keep it for a while, there's no decision - 22b all the way.

Cheers Alistair
On another couple of threads I'm getting some good feedback on a couple on the market just now. I now feel encouraged enough to start making calls for test drives tomorrow
Now I just need to tell the misses what I'm up to.....

i too would say the 22b it is by far the most awesome scooby ever made it looks awesome and is pretty rare to see on the roads as i dont know official figures i cant say the 22b is lighter than the new scoobies but im pretty damn sure it will be also coming with more power standard and being lighter will dominate (whilst looking far far nicer) a new age impreza also with weight after a few simple mods will be better round corners dont forget the 22b has a wider track increasing stability and grip!
and dont forget the fact there is not many made depreciation in value will never happen you just might make money on it if u are ever foolish or forced into selling it on unlike the newer generation of scoobies!
did i mention the 22b is very sexy!lol
