Default Basics of Turbo Timer.

Excuse my ignorance of vehicle Ignition systems, but i was wondering what the basics of a Turbo timer are.

I know the box, what ever the make, is essentially an electronic timer to keep the ignition on for a pre-set time etc, and on some if the handbrake is released the ignition is cut as a safety feature.

What i want to know is from the Ignition loom what does the timer physically do to keep the ignition on.

As there are only mainly three wires coming from the ignition loom into a timer, what does it do with these feeds? I'm guessing when the timer is engaged it ties one of the lines to +12v, is that correct.

I need this info for another application, not a turbo timer as such.

Any help appriciated.

Steve

Turbo Timers are a GADGET!!!
if you cant drive the speed limit home (or the last 5-10 mins of your journey)
then get one,
But if you can, you dont need one
Insurance dont like them...

they run for about 3-5 mins after turning the engine off,
to allow the oil in turbo to cool down (i think)
saves your turbo from breaking, ??

I just drive home on the speed limit from Motorway (7 mins) & that is sufficiant (sp)
or when get to a meet, Just leave engine running for a couple of mins before turning it off.

the 3 wires are:

1 - Permanent postive supply
2 - Accessory
3 - Ignition

plus there will be at least 2 other leads, one for earth and the second to connect to the handbrake, so in theory, if some twocer decides he/she is more entitled to you car than you are, as soon as they release the handbrake, the timer will shut down the engine.

Give me a shout if you need any more answers mate

Sorry, i may not have explained myself correctly.

What does the timer do physically to hold the ignition on? Does it hold the 'Ignition' wire to the 'Permanent postive supply' whilst in count down mode ?

Many thanks,

Steve

in the timer is a 3 way relay which keeps a positive feed to the accessory and ignition feeds, which effectively is by passing the ignition switch

I found a HKS Turbo timer in the centre console where the stereo is.... pushed down at the bottom.

It looks connected to something but pushing the power button does nothing?

Also, it has around a dozen wires!!!!! ?

I want to remove it but don't know where to start?

By the sounds of it, you haven't got a harness adaptor plugged in, so it's hard wired in.

One of the wires you mention will have to be spliced into the Ignition switch (Position II) wire, and the other to the ignition feed wire.

What are the colours of the ignition pos 2 and feed wires?
