Default Carbon firewall?

Since fitting my rear harness bar, I figured i didnt want anyone in the back of my car.
Nobody ever goes in there anyway and also its now a huge safety issue for anyone in the back.... and its damn chilly for them with the roof vent open

SO..

I figured id strip the rear of the car out.. but fancy going WRC style and having some of these WRC carbon items..

Firewall?

Bench replacement?

Parcel shelf?

As usual I want to do something not normally seen on the normal roadgoing imprezas.

Depending on how i get on this could esculate into a set of doorcards maybe too?

What do you lot reckon?

Not that it will change my mind

I thought it was a secret!

I think it will look pretty cool, very WRC.

A bit of an extreme look for a road car but if that's the look you are after.

Another great idea but isn't it a one way street, once its done there is no going back? What about resale or are you not bothered?

It's a huge safety issue sat in the front too!!

Mate, it seems your mind is already made up. You've got a second car if and when you need to carry passengers.

Go for it, the worst that can happen is that you don't like it and even then it's an easy mod to put back

I have no plans to sell her.. deffo not yet anyway.

As Ed said. its easy enough to put back. I have all the parts to put everything back to stock if i wanted to.. only thing i cant change is the roof vent.

I just think it will look cheap and nasty if i strip it to metal. This way id get to strip it and still have a classy look.

Oh it will definitely look cheap if you strip it to bear metal! It'll look like a boyracer's cheap way to lighten the car, and your car is worth more than that!!! I think it will make it look more modern if you catch my drift?

It's going to save weight.

It's going to look a proper job.

It's going to stop anyone even thinking about sitting in the back.

It's got to be done.

Because as much as id like it to be on track all the time... the fact of the matter is that the car spends more time on the road.

Therefore a cage used on the road is more of a threat than that of a safety feature.

Hence why i comprimised on a harness bar.. gives me a secure harness mounting with clean looks and not a threat to driver safety.

See.. there is a method to my madness

Although you know Frayz, it's probably best to point out that it's a common misconception that a cage makes a car safer in every situation. I have seen a couple of road going cars with the "bolt in - look cool" cages.

The thought of a massive tube inches away from a head that is not inside a crash helmet in a car that has had a side impact or is rolling is scary. Side air bags are there for a reason too.

so you should only really be in a caged car when wearing a helmet then. I hadnt thought about your head hitting the bars

Yes mate.. Exactly that.

Youll be supprised how much time and deveopment goes into designing interiors for crash protection to occupants. In the industry the dash board is actually called the crash pad. All the trim in you car is designed to factor in occupant safety..

Just imagine getting your head smashed into a 2" steel pole at mere 20mph?

Doesnt even contemplate thinking about now does it?

As Mark said so many people overlook this when fitting a cage is so dangerous. Cages are for full motorsport use only. If i were to fit a full cage this would involve wearing a helmet 100% of the time.
