MENCAP CONTROL POINTS
To help you decide which CPs (Control Points) you want to visit I have done an aerial view of each location that matches the maps you get in your entry pack.
This gives an idea of what awaits you at each CP (countryside, seaside, industrial area or motorway services). And will give an idea of whether you want to visit it or spend time there or not.
Use the CP on each pair of maps to get your bearings & then the road layout etc will be easy to spot.
ALL CHECK POINTS
CP1 (PUB IN COUNTRYSIDE)
CP2 (GARAGE IN COUNTRYSIDE)
CP3 (ROUNDABOUT INDUSTRIAL AREA)
CP4 (SEASIDE CAR PARK)
CP5 (COUNTRY VILLAGE)
CP6 (MOTORWAY SERVICES M5 J24)
WAY POINT & LUFTON COLLEGE FINISH
IMHO I would prefer not to go to CP3 or CP6.
However CP4 looks a good place to be if we need to while away some time before heading back to the finish at the college. (1515hrs - 1630hrs)
Control Point 4 Chesil Beach (Abbotsbury)
To fully appreciate Abbotsbury's awe-inspiring setting it is best to approach the village from the west. If you have a car pull off the road into one of the convenient lay-bys at the summit of Abbotsbury Hill to enjoy a quite spectacular panoramic view of the village and surrounding countryside.
The vista which stretches eastwards along the Chesil Bank to the Island of Portland is stunning. Down to your right, behind a screen of trees lie Abbotsbury Sub-Tropical Gardens and just beyond them the Fleet (the stretch of water between the Chesil Bank and the mainland) broadens out in a sheltered lagoon to form The Swannery. As the eye moves inland, the 15thC St. Catherine's Chapel stands solitary upon a hill which dominates the village, its terraced slopes leading the eye downwards towards the church and village.
Where to eat in Abbotsbury.
Abbotsbury - Dorset - Jurassic Coast
The Old Schoolhouse Tea Rooms (1 Back Street) have cakes include Dorset Applecake, and of course scrumptious clotted cream teas with their own large home baked scones.
"Dorset Applecake" does it for me.

Have a look at this as an idea for a route/plan & see what you think. We will be talking about what we will be doing when we meet at the Lodge. This is just one idea to have a think about as there are lots of options.
