Default Time for a few more horses!

Right Guys it's time for more power in the ra. I'm not having it that dad's scooby is more powerful than mine!

So far the mods overall are:

Engine:

Full decat consisting of what looks like a 3" bore down pipe but a 2.5" bore centre and back box. centre section is non resonated and the backbox is a Hayward and Scott Jap style angle exit,
Blitz Induction kit with engine heat shield,
Hayward and Scott equal length headers - wrapped,
Intercooler deflector,
My02 WRX intercooler to go in,
new ngk pf7b plugs to go in.

Rest of the car:
330mm Big 4 pot brake setup with braided lines to slow it down,
Front and rear upper strut braces,
Lower rear strut brace to go on,
oil temp & pressure plus boost gauges to go in,
harnesses to go in,
soon to be stripped out and possibly a cage fitted - not sure yet.

I want to get the car up to around the 300bhp mark. I had pretty much the above mods on my old wrx and it gave 250 / 240 on a dyno dynamics rolling road. I'm guessing that i have similar power in the ra.

So what route should i look at taking? I've got at most £1500 to spend and was thinking along the lines of uprated fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, either a piggy back ecu or apexi power fc. possibly sell off the centre section and rear box and get a 3" system together with uprated up pipe. or do i keep the exhaust system i have and look at other options, ie, better ecu or bigger injectors, change the turbo?

But most importantly for the biggest gains i will be investing in driver training or imo there's no point giving the car the potential to be quick if i can't drive it quickly!

Your thoughts.

Cheers,

Matt.

I'd go for:

Walbro Pump £80 fitted

Fuelab Reg £200 Fitted

Apexi PFC £800 Fitted

Maybe injectors/turbo/STI tmic

must admit that is the route that i was thinking of with mr mocom to do the supply and fit of said parts.

i've already got a bigger cooler for it the my02 wrx item is bigger than the v5 sti top mount captain has on the wagon

i guess if i change the turbo the injectors will need to be changed too. i could always sell the td05 to my dad to replace the td04 on the wagon and then get a 20g but guessing will be well out of my £1500 budget though

only aiming for 300(ish) so tmic will be fine. plus it will keep more of the weight to the centre of the car rather than adding to the front weight for dreaded understeer . the other mod i have planned is to move the battery to the boot

around the 300bhp mark is my aim as i don't want to be killing off the gearbox.

if in the future i get more funds then 350bhp will be the upper i go to as i think any more will just cost far to much to make it reliable.

If standard, should be the TD05 16G ..... As Matt says it has a TD05 .

I wouldnt go for the 20G ....... Not on a 2 litre. I did have a very good 20G (only covered 1000 miles), and it never saw my car, I opted for a VF28 .

If you did want to change the turbo and want quick spool up and 300bhp you should go for a TD04 hybrid!

I have and the resalts are great!

Know a guy on here selling one for about £250 too were i got mine from.

In that case there s no need to swap the 16g out for anything. The 16g is a cracking little blower and will virtually take everything and more you can throw at it.

Comfortably over 300bhp is possible with that turbo.

Dont bother with the hybrid TD04, it wont make as much as the 16g and the difference in spool wont be a great deal at all.

Again, i wouldnt opt for a 20g unless you want peak figures. I have a 20g on a 2ltr and dont find it laggy at all but then i drive differently to others, it would feel pretty special in the RA but then you may be asking a lot from the box on a 20g.

Matt, i think your best bet is exactly the route that Bibo suggested and maybe add some injectors to the list if they start running high duty cycles.

Over 300 of each in a RA will be a very very interesting little car. I drove a stock STI RA not so long ago and absolutely loved it!!

Go fior it

yup has the td05. will pass on the 20g then as i don't want to cookie the gear box (sorry cookie only kidding)

was looking at some nismo 550 injectors last night or if i'm going to change them, should i go for something a bit bigger, incase, sorry when i want to get more power again in the future. 740's weren't much more.

will have to get onto Zak to find out about when he can fit the car in. will be interested to see what it does on sunday. perhaps i'll have a chat with him then about getting it fitted in.

yup the ra is so much better than my old wrx. the difference is amazing compared to one that is weighed down with sound deadening etc. am planning on stripping this one right out to get the power to weight ratio up a bit more. battery will be moving to the boot to help to get a bit more 50 / 50 weight distribution. part of the reason why i'm not thinking about a front mount.

plus i need to factor in an alignment setup

550s will be enough with a reg to cope with about 350bhp

I have some 550 for sale, pm me if you would like them?

And frayz when i said go for the td04 it was only because i went up to a tdo5 but the drive was just not spooly enough for london driving (if u get what i mean) so went back to a td04 hybrid.

So much better now and not so much worrys on knowing what that 16g turned up could do to my gearbox!

See what i get on the rollers on sunday but the car is really nice to drive what ever the numbers
