Just gathering some information guys, I was just wondering what turbo you are using, what power and what boost you are reaching to achieve your power.

Currently on a TD05 20g running 1.5bar boost.
Dunno what power???
I know and have access to a car running Md321T pushing 1.8 bar boost and over 400bhp.
I have seen lots of cars with big turbos and the STI topmount with good results. 1.5 bar from a big turbo isnt asking alot for the STI topmount. The larger turbos naturally have lower charge tempratures due to them not working beyond their efficiency.
Andy f has soon over 480bhp on his stock sti topmount and has peaked his MD321T at 2.2bar!!

Have run 2 x MD321T's on an STi with the OE topmount, one at 1.5bar and one at 1.8bar, also run a 20G at around 360bhp, FPGreen at around 400bhp - both at 1.5bar or thereabouts.
Have also run a VF37 at 1.6bar on a 2.5ltr with OE TMIC, compressor outlet temperatures were far from optimal but the TMIC does such a good job of removing heat from the charge air that you wouldn't think so. Did 20k like this running in excess of 410ftlbs until changing the turbo.
Then there's all the 16G's and VFxx's all running at around 1.5bar and still going strong although at less than 350bhp.

Ive noticed a lower charge temp now with the td05......I think.

Sounds like a mapping issue to me mate. Theres no way that 1.4bar for an MD321T would create anywhere near dangerous temps through an STI topmount @ 100mph.
My 20g will be hotter than that. If its mapped properly the high inlet temps would be corrected by the ECU retarding the ignition anyway.
1.4 bar is not a lot of boost at all through what is a very efficient turbocharger. (MD321T)

Well API are still blaming it on the top mount, very unhappy about all of this tbh, as IMO if the top mount was unsuitable then for one the car should not have been allowed to be released as it was, and two surely the mapper would not have been happy and refused to map the car with it on.

Thats all **** though mate, you wasnt on track, you wasnt in a heatsoaked situation. You was on a 70mph dual carrigeway.
The sti topmount is by no means near its limits of efficiency in your situation.

Cookie,
Who specified a topmount?
Regardless, as Frayz says it should still have been mapped safely for what ever specification is on the car.
If API are not going to rectify the problem Satisfactorily, then without opening up a big debate on here (with all the expert opinion you will get!), or getting in a slagging match with them I would seek legal advice at an early stage. You would be amazed at how a suitably worded letter from a solicitor can resolve a situation.
There is at least 1 solicitor within the ESC who may be able to help, or at least point you in the direstion of someone who can.
good luck,
Neil

I am running std TMIC with over 350 bhp and 400 lb/ft running 1.5 bar.
For facts:
I have a charge temp gauge AFTER the turbo/TMIC in that cruise situation (70mph on motorway) I see temperatures of ambient -1 C - hardly going to cause any engine to protest.
fyi the engine will retard ignition based on IAT not charge temps as there is no std sensor measuring this on UK/EU cars. It will/should retard based on knock from excess cylinder heat though. (zak please correct me if I am wrong )

If there is anything to say, Cookie, API, Pat, may I suggest that on here is not the place to do it.
I hope that the issues can be resolved to everyone's satisfaction.
