Just go through the steps on the web site, box it up and UPS will come and collect it free of charge......

It really is a bit of a joke isn't it

They don't send a box, as the website says... they just email you a packing slip, you have to package it yourself, then call USP to collect it.

I must admit, he's been playing it to death, I'm sure I've seen him online at well gone midnight

That's a joke Phil, before you ban him from playing with it in future....

If the case has not been opened send it back, they will repair it FOC.
If it's been chipped then don't do the wrap in towels thing. It's not a proper fix! A proper fix requires opening the case and modding inside.
Even then there is no guarantee it will work. The three lights error is a general error message, but normally signifies an overheating issue these are know for.
If you take the DIY route, I'll send you some links to fixing it.
Cheers
Tony

They email you the UPS details, a packing slip, a receipt and some other stuff. You print off the packing slip, box it up, call UPS and they will collect it for you free of charge.

towels work fine on modded or un-modded ... if you want to be playing the xbox in 15 mins flat then do that, if you are happy to wait for three weeks then send back to m.soft. If it's modded though I wouldn't send it back as you won't be able to use xbox live ever again on that xbox.

towels work just fine, is well documented that they work and I did it to my box a few months ago and it's been fine ever since.
