Mocom Questions / Sports Cat Questions
Hi just after some advice really.
Whats best way of contacting Mocom as sent an e-mail yesterday and not had a response yet and also tried the phone but it was answer machine (I didn't leave a message)
I appriciate they're busy so it's not a moan or anything like that just an enquiry.
Also can anyone advise if they fit downpipes and sports cats?
Reason being is I can source one and fit if really but I would rather they fit and remap same day so i'm not driving around with it playing havoc with the engine management and causing possible overboost and fuel cut.
And finally, I understand they're busy but anyone know the rough waiting times on remaps from Zak there? i'm looking to get my sports cat and remap asap.
Now aside from Mocom i've search the site for which to go for and it's all mixed responses so thought i'd ask you guys as you've probably got some experience from them.
I'm looking for 350bhp max, nothing extreme whats a good sports cat to go for?
H&S - £?
Roger Clark - £?
TSL Thundercat - £400 (heard you might need to use a classic mid pipe though?)
Ninja Sportscat - £300
Scoobybits sports cat - £300
Prodrive - £?
If the Ninja or Scoobybits will be good for 350bhp and they perform than financially that seems the most sound options. If the others could give me more power then thats an option but if it's an extra £100-£150 for 2-5bhp i'll pass.

i've heard rumours that the h&s and ninja ones are the same thing
iirc, Zak's email access is down at the moment. or at least it was the other week and there wasn't a fix date. give him a call mate. top bloke and easy to talk to.
If you're going for a catted dp then i don't think it'll cause the cel light to come on. it's when you go for a decat that it'll do that. i may be wrong though.
zak's the man to talk to though. 350 should be fairly easily achievable with your car. you'll soon be wanting more.

I know Powerstation use Milltek, but have heard good things about the Prodrive sports cats too reading other threads on here (although the latter appear to come either wrapped or not and it's not particularly clear whether that's down to the owner, or the model the sports cat came off ).
I'm also thinking of getting a sports cat for my newage but have left it up until now purely because I'm uncertain as to exactly what I need. I have a cat back Milltek at the moment (centre section and silencer) - but unsure where the sports cat fits in as isn't the Impreza exhaust a 4 piece system?? Sorry to hijack your thread with that question btw

Basically on a UK Newage Scoob it's the following.
Turbo is connected to the 'Downpipe and 1st Cat' this connects to the 2nd Cat on another pipe, then you have you midpipe/centre section, then your back box.
So thats your 4 parts.
On the Jap Spec scoobs, the 1st and 2nd Cats I believe are on the same piece of pipe, so 3 pieces.

Zak will get back to you mate...
he's very professional and worth the wait.
also, once you become a customer, he will go out of his way to keep you happy.
he also uses "Mocom Magic" powder on ECU's

Magic powder eh...
If I combine that with an ill alligned sticker shopping list of various parts I don't have fitted to my car the extra bhp gains are un-imaginable
I just need a GTI badge now and i'll be running 10's at Pod.
Anyway....
I'm happy to wait a busy business generally means they do a good job, especially if it's repeat customers.
And as they say... "good things come to those who wait."

I've got a Prodrive Sports CAT and Prodrive centre de-cat that were sourced on here through the For Sale section. Both Brand New and obtained for a very reasonable price!
Zak then fitted them (& wrapped them) the day prior to the remap. Top stuff

Have a look at Fozzy's car for a MY03 Sports catted STi.
https://www.scoobynet.com/scooby.php?profileid=5
I also have a H&S sports cat on MY06 STi.
350 is pretty unlikely on just a Sports Cat but the best advice I can give you is 'go mocom' Try and forget figures if you can as you will never be comparing like with like. Everyone seems to have a take on what formula to exploit to have the biggest bragging rights
Edit...to say fukc me I took a long time to type that Mr Fozzy

Fozzy's Spec
Prodrive Sports CAT (Wrapped) - This is what I need to source
Prodrive DeCAT pipe - Already fitted
Blitz NUR Spec S back box - Ninja Back Box Fitted
MOCOM Racing remap - What I want doing
Green cotton panel filter - Already fitted
Denso Iridium Spark Plugs - What i'll have fitted
Walbro Fuel pump - Already fitted
So realisitically I guess I can with an identical spec have an idea of what I can achieve.
350bhp is what I want to expect sorry if I came across that way, what I mean is for a long time I don't see myself making changes to achieve more than that power, so if the Ninja downpipe is good for say 370bhp and the H&S one for 450bhp the Ninja downpipe will be fine for me at £150 cheaper

I had a full H&S decat with an induction kit and a Mocom remap and was making around 330 on an 02 STi
But as said before don't get too hung up on figures, it's how it drives and how happy it makes you firstly, figures are just that bragging rights in the pub etc.....
Talk to Zak he will sort you out

Andrew, I drew a blank trying to reply to your email - this was the response I had....

From my experience with Sports cats there is a lot of variation to their performance with the Prodrive item being a good solid performer, these can generally be picked up 2nd hand for reasonable money.
Regarding power output, don't get hung up on what others may be quoting as there is a lot of 'sales' hp being claimed.
Most will know that to build a reliable and comparable database of Newage Subaru performance stats from cars we've breathed on, each road dyno is taken on the same stretch of private road and each test is conducted in the same manner - whilst weather conditions may vary from day to day you will not see temperature variations as you may on some rolling roads so figures are generally very close.
This graph illustrates a typical remap result from a UK STi, the line in yellow was achieved post remap which I then quoted as being around 315bhp at the flywheel - note the figures indicated on the scales are measured at the wheels - the red line is a JDM STi that was tested after it was remapped by 'XXXTuner' to 350bhp. The JDM car does show torque earlier than the UK car due to the twinscroll turbo and also has a higher rpm limit so reaches higher speed in testing but, much the same as the UK STi, it fails to continue to make power after 6000rpm.
I'd suggest that peak HP values are very similar.
Something else that may look odd for a 35bhp difference is the accelleration times, they are both v e r y similar
UK STi In Gear Acceleration:
40 - 60mph = 2.9 seconds
50 - 70mph = 2.6 seconds
60 - 80mph = 2.7 seconds
70 - 90mph = 3.1 seconds
JDM STi In Gear Acceleration:
40 - 60mph = 2.8 seconds
50 - 70mph = 2.6 seconds
60 - 80mph = 2.7 seconds
70 - 90mph = 3.0 seconds
80 -100mph = 3.6 seconds
This next graph shows the same JDM STi (now illustrated in cyan) against a WR1 (in red) remapped by Mocom Racing which I feel is much closer to 350bhp and has an improvement in top end accelleration to back this up.
Note how the WR1 continues to make power when the JDM's power levels out at 5500rpm and the 0.5 second improvement in the 70-100mph time
WR1 In Gear Acceleration:
40 - 60mph = 2.8 seconds
50 - 70mph = 2.6 seconds
60 - 80mph = 2.7 seconds
70 - 90mph = 2.8 seconds
80 -100mph = 3.3 seconds

Ah right thats good to see.
I follow that general grasp of all that, just because one car is making 35bhp more at the fly it's only realistically 1/2 a second quicker to 100mph and through the gears hardly any difference, so although yes it's running 'x' bhp depending on the map it really doesn't make that much difference.
I suppose really what i'm looking for isn't so muh power, just better throttle response etc, that a map will help with.
Cheers for all that info above I do appriciate the time that must have been taken to draft all that up.

My previous MY03 WRX was around 273bhp/276ftlbs after my first map and a worlds apart from the PPP map.
I had the sports cat fitted and then remapped.
Before:
40 - 60mph = 3.3 seconds
50 - 70mph = 3.3 seconds
60 - 80mph = 3.7 seconds
After:
40 - 60mph = 2.8 seconds
50 - 70mph = 2.7 seconds
60 - 80mph = 2.9 seconds

Well since I heard of the magic Mocom fairy dust that gives me more power I couldn't say no to taking the car there.
It's booked in for Tuesday
Remap and Sports Cat fitting
Looking forward to it. Should be interesting as car already boosts to 1.6bar and has lots of mods but seems to run like crap so i'm certain a new map will iron this all out.
*Previous owner just flashed it with someone elses car map
