Alex Running..... you're having a laugh!
Must be that time of year......
BHF Main events site - Alex Drake's british 10km london run
Most of you will know me as a 20 a day smoker, that changed when I had my last cigarette on the 12th Feb and decided to get fit again (After 12 years of little to no exercise).
Four weeks after that I decided to try and jog once/twice a week for pleasure/general fitness and to date have only managed 4km (2.5miles) at a push (not in total).
After seeing a few close friends complete the London Marathon on the 13th April 2008, I was inspired to do something more..... www.thebritish10klondon.co.uk on the 6th July.
This is only 10km (6.25miles) and is a world away from the mind boggling 26miles my friends achieved, but for me 10km will be a major achievement.
I'm not expecting big donations for this reason - literally anything you are happy to give will be appreciated.
There is always a however and mine is I've decided to support The British Heart Foundation for personal reasons, so the more you can give the more people will be able to benefit in the future. www.bhf.org.uk
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Heart Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.

That's really kind of you mate thanks so much. My mate had to walk down stairs backwards at the bar after the Marathon! Did chuckle.... You feeling better today?
I've actually already submitted my name for the 2009 Marathon, but as you know there is only a one in five chance I'll get in!

Not my fault dude, you could have said no!
At least you're going to be a the right fitness level for it as the training is already done, just make sure you go out for a couple of runs before then!!

I spoke to my mum yesterday and have checked she's OK me mentioning it in public, but basically the other week she had a heart attack.
Thankfully, I am happy to say she is doing well. Bit of a shocker as she leads a very healthy lifestyle.......
Means a lot mate
(I'll do my best to come along to one soon - promise - will be good to see you guys).

Hi guys
I thought I'd give a little update to the previous message.
I did my first 10k last night in 58mins 8secs. I can't believe it to be honest. I ran from Hitchin to Letchworth and back without stopping.... I hope over the next 2 and a half weeks I'll be able to increase my fitness so I can beat this time, but 23,000 other people on the day might prevent me from running as I want to.....
Please pass this message on as I'd love to be able to hit my target (currently I am at 44%).
