mostly the town centre that effected, sent home everyone in quite a few of the larger offices (M&G etc)...I've got power though

Not making light of the situation, BUT, do you think it could be a member of the travelling community. The only reason I say this, a substation in Wakering was attacked 18-24 months ago in Wakering as they were after the Copper cables, and a travelling chap cut into a live cable with a pair of bolt cutters, giving him massive burns up his arms, he was (supposedly) hit off by another with a length of timber.
I just found the article .... It mentions him putting a bar into the sub-station, but that is not what I have heard

the substation in question is pretty big. no idea of the level of kva it deals with, but there are some serious transformers in there.
look on google earth or live.com/maps and search for fell christy, then go east to the other side fo the road and you;ll see the substation
