anyone know what happened with the power in chelmsford today?

went outu for lunch with an old colleague about 1pm after a brief blip in power and saw huge plumes of smoke coming from the substation by the new university campus. i noticed the by pass (regiment way) was closed

when i got back from lunch and finally got to my house, i could see a chopper hovering over the substation. i guess power was off for about 7hrs for us.

not see or heard any news so just wondered if anyone knew what had happened. i think the same substation suffered from a big fire about 3yrs ago and power was restored reasonably quickly after that, so jusging by the thick black smoke i saw (burning oil??) i guess it's something a lot more serious

yes. got back from a weekend in boscombe/bournemouth last night and as we were warned to expect another cut while things wre being sorted, i didn't set my media centre to record the gp and usual. i asked my dad to sky+ it - god job the computers were off this weekend as there was another cut at some point.

i noticed the amount of dust and crap all over my car last night, so looks like i'll be washing it this pm.

i also noticed in the chronicle that the circling chopper was apparently telling residents to go inside and shut windows as toxic fumes. i had just driven home in another car when i saw the chopper and didn't hear a thing....except lots of engie noise
