Angry A127 Average Speed Cameras

Anybody on here ever seen/read the justification for the speed cameras now gracing the entire length of the A127? Essex Police being over zealous again or what? Are the accident statistics for the A127 particularly bad?? Or is this just one step closer to a Police State?

Furthermore, what numpty decided to increase the 50 limit to 70 just BEFORE the Altons/Pound Lane interjunction, just where caution IS required? What qualifications do you need to be one of the clowns who makes this stuff up??

Anybody have more information?

The junction in question used to be a 70, so it will be the same as before.

Yes it will. My point being that if you're going to make a stretch 50mph, then the obvious reaction to a national speed limit sign is to speed up, just at the time when acceleration at those junctions is the last thing you need. Utterly clueless planning.

The comments were just a bunfight though.

I'd still be keen to know what the "official" reason for this measure is. Is the A127 a particularly dangerous dual carriageway? Does this lead the way for a national reduction to 50?

There have been quite a few accidents on the A127 in recent times, including some fatalities I believe, not sure on the exact figure though Tel.

Although, if I remember correctly the last few major accidents have been closer to the Halfway House section, which remains 70mph. Do the 70mph Specs cameras continue right up to the M25?

The specs start from and finish about the Mayflower tescos point.

The speed cameras by the Fortune of war have been covered up for the last few months (Both sides)

Tel,

You could apply to Essex County Council and ask them to release to you how many accidents (fatal or otherwise) there had been on the A127 under the Freedom of Information Act. They would be compelled to tell you as this will fall within the criteria. They would have no excuse not to respond. IIRC an application under the FOIA is £25.

Any help?

I'm not worried to the tune of £25 to find out! I just wondered if the local press had given any justification. I'm bloody annoyed, that was a damn good runway on a Sunday morning!!

There aren't many, but if you're ever going to Summerhill garden centre or anywhere on that turn-off, then you can come off at the Basildon turn-off if you're coming from Southend, and er, poodle along at 69.9mph on the opposite carriageway till the slip road
