Also when in 5th on a private road! im sitting at 6200 revs the speedo is at 109 mph,but not struggling, still more to go., so ??? does that mean i gonna blow up how much more should it have. im too scared that ill blow it.> what should they go upto? it runs well has 55900 miles Genuine, few mods as posted on profile some one please help!!!
also got a boost controller asking me to set: GAIN? Start?WARN? PSI?

As far as I'm aware, the yellow ECU plugs aren't a factor in determining whether the car is an STI. The ECU I presume will .be a Z74 on that year

with the revs and speed readings, you have a close ratio gearbox which make it more certain of a STI. I know someone with a Type R and the guy don't like taking it on long journeys because of the gear ratios!

What's the chassis / engine numbers? We can use that info to determine what your car actually is. When I bought my first scoob, I took it to a jap show at santa Pod and a guy told me it wasn't just a WRX, mainly because of the colour, so when I done a little digging, I found out the car was a WRX V-Limited.

Can't comment on the boost controller though, but if you let us know what make and model, something could be found out about it

It depends on your definition of slow!!

Imprezas with close ratio gearboxs are done for one thing in mind - out right acceleration

As Stu says, the other code is needed

Hard launches will smoke the clutch as there's more grip from all four wheels.

Upload the picture to photobucket or similar, copy the link and paste on here

Perhaps its time to change gear at 6500 rpm, It may have a limiter on there, some cheap one can go past the set rpm if held there,

It seems to really pull when past 6500 i dont push it past 6800, i dont know about if the ECU was done as all i got when i bought it was a big file of reciepts stating all the engine work, ie static fuel pump? goody dropped forged pistons and rings,, and cams re ground? i bought it from a Jockey, who had the car in storage for 5 years, who was parralised, he told me he had engine work done as it not been started for that amount of time, got £5400 of receipts, iv caklled all the garages to validate , which have.. except one thing the ECU, whilst cleaning other day a block box fell down, with writting, HKS AFR and like a volume switch on it, set to 6 which goes 0-10 6 stating off< 0 to 5 minus 6 to 10 plus,, also whilst putting a boost gauge on the garage phoned me to say that the fuel pump regulator vacuum pipe is not connected, tehy have recconected ( at a charge) they said thats why its got no top end, however its no different, is it possible was unconnected on purpose for the AFR, Think its a Air Fuel Regulastor,, Anyones welcome to have a look at the motor,i in the essex region,Can you tell what version it is by the picture?

Doubt it'll be an RA fella. They didn't make them in silver for a start, unless it's been resprayed of course. Other RA things would be no abs, no central locking, no rear wiper, would have intercooler water spray (not sure if sti this age had it?), iirc by 96 the ra came as an sti ra so would also have a roof vent. Loads more info on RA at Type-RA.co.uk - Subaru Impreza WRX Type RA, Impreza WRX STi Type RA, Impreza Type RA V Limited, Scooby V. Ltd, visit the WRX forum & Subaru forum

One thing i would say is get it booked in somewhere to get it mapped. If it's had all them mods and no ecu work the fueling will most likely be way off. You stand a chance of it detting and going bang!

So short box then, not as short as the RA but shorter than the WRX of the same year. Same box as mine and it's brilliant. If you want to blast past the 120mph barrier you will find you are into the 6k revs constantly. Consider it a quick car rather than a fast car.

Bits start to fall off at that speed anyway

The cars great, i love it had some Diesel astra 1.7 CDTI next to me 2 hours ago, on m11 sitting next to me at 115 then he pulled next to me and said nice car he flashed to let me over take the car in front in outside lane, i was already flat out and he was a bit p1553d off as it meant he had to brake hard, he thought i was messing about, its so annoying having diesels fly past,, I might flog it or swop for something else, shame tho, problem for me is i drive back and forward to Spain 5 times a yeasr and with that sort of box, not very amusing,,,,,,,, Wheres the Lodge then whats happening there
