Default Sky HD vs Virgin HD

Looking to upgrade to single room HD. I currently have the full Sky TV package which costs £46 pm. My internet (10 mb) and phone line are through Virgin costing £30 pm

Sky is £79 box and set up (although ive been told that you can haggle to £30 box and set up if you threaten to leave) plus £9.75pm

Virgin are currently doing a deal of £77 per month which is HD, 20 mb internet and free anytime landline calls. Set up is £49

My question is, is Virgin TV as good as Sky? Do Virgin customers still not receive all the channels (i.e Sky 1 and some others that i can't remember) The numbers suggest that i'll be £9 better a month off, which granted isn't much plus faster broadband. Is it worth it?

badger virgin and they'll nock the install price down, i had the same choice and went with virgin, not disapointed, also should be noted for the football lovers you get setanta sports free with virgin hd.

virgin are also rolling out there 50mb a sec broadband, so shall be upgrading that asap, i've been told its an extra £10 a month

my setup is from the virgin modem to a netgear router and yet to loose the connection once, mates have poped over and connected to the network with the password with ease. so i'd seriously recomend that setup.

do you still haev to go down the two bills, bt line etc etc with sky?

you must be one of the very few lucky ones!!!!! i have had issues with sky customer service since day 1.

It took them 3 months and numerous phone calls to change my sky talk when i moved.

and to top it off, bearing in mind all the agro i have had when i asked sky if there was anything i could have to persuade me to renew my sky, their answer was basically no, sod off.

just a shame virgin is no better!!!!

Don't think SKY 1 is on Virgin either (might have changed now).
SKY Sports in HD is fantastic

Plus points for Virgin is that it is cable based so no interference with weather conditions but so far the weather has not affected Sky services too many times.

I was tempted with Virgin but like yourself wanted the HD sports & I also wanted Sky 1 HD as well.

My Sky had been playing up for several months. The price kept going up & I begrudged paying more for HD. I also needed new equipment or an engineer visit or both. Cable was not an option.

Went for Freesat HDR. Simultaneous viewing of one channel and recording another channel. Record 2 channels at the same time 320GB HDD. Separate feed to another room. Live pause/rewind/playback etc. The installation & equipment outlay will be covered after about 1 year of not paying Sky anymore. Then it's FREE.

Not as much HD content as others but more being added and with my eyesight does it really matter? Once we adjusted our viewing habits we haven't missed Sky at all. Other than the Direct Debit.
