I know its not a case in just dropping it in,what else do i need to do to make it compatible with my car?

The 2002 STI engine is a good stong unit.

I am doing the same engine in my car (thanks to Simon57).

You'll have to block the extra breather that is in the middle of the block, and i believe you have to use the water cross over pipe (i think that's what it is called) from the early car.

The pistons/rods/crank etc are good for 400-450bhp

I think all the current electrics will work fine on the engine if you use your current inlet manifold and heads.

Will do mate.

I have got to speak to Mark @ Lateral about the head gaskets, as i'm not 100% sure which ones are best to use due to the compression ratio.

STOP!!

The 2002 motor has AVCS heads and wont be compatable with your cars loom or ECU.

You can use the short motor and your stock heads, but it cant be fitted as a longblock without an aftermarket ECU and suitable loom.

worth trying to source some sti heads from your MY so they are compatible with your loom, that way you will get less tame cams and a higher rev limit

On a serious note, I'd only ever concider buying a used motor if you know exactly what you're looking at. If you don't know, just build a new one. You could see yourself back in the same position in the not too distant future and end up spending the money twice over.
if you buy used, what's the motor done? Why was it removed? who stripped it? How long has it been sat? How has it been protected whiles its been sat? Etc etc etc.

Nowhere near worth the agro unless you plan on stripping it, cleaning it properly and running fresh bearings, oil pump, modine etc etc

Just my thoughts, your call.

Tom,

Why sell it if you get it running again? Do some research into the engine you're putting in or buy from somewhere that gives you at least a 6 month warrenty on it.

If you are going to just sell straight away, seriously weigh up the cost of having the recon lump put in against selling as it is or breaking. You might just be chucking money away.

Just my 2p.

In 2 minds at the moment. Both it and the Fiesta have cost me a fortune lately. Dare I say it but after driving the in laws 2.0 Mundaino at the weekend, I rather like it as a lazy a to b car. Automatic, cruz control and all the toys. Plus 26mpg around town as opposed to 15mpg out of the scoob. Could be the way forward.

tom drop wms a pm i totally forgot he did my short bottom end i took a chance as it was on ebay but after chatting to him he really did fill me with confidence, even tho it was built with good 2nd hand parts with a high pressure oil pump and acl bearings and (touch wood) has been good as gold, will probly die 2mo lol

he did drop me a pm when it 1st died and he said he could do a full rebuild for £1695 he id he is cheaper than alot as he is based at home so does'nt have the over heads

he is very helpful and sent a full list of what oils to run and what plugs and how to run it in and change the oil every 200 miles while running in,i was very impressed

hope this is of help mate, keep ya chin up and just always remember the grin you get when you push the loud pedal!!
