Advice please from the photographers on here
Have posted in the photography section as well, but I know there's some pukka photographers on here.
Its my sons wedding in a couple of weeks and I'd like to be able to take some photos of my own rather than rely upon the official ones. At present I'm really only a holiday snapper and have a Samsung Digimax V4,4 megapixel, compact which is to say the least 'adequate'. It was passed down to me when my son upgraded and has served its purpose over the past few years.
Looking at perhaps spending up to £150 on something - any recommendations? Ease of use and suitability are I suppose the main criteria at this stage although if there's a camera out there that might encourage me to become a bit more interested in photography as a whole then that would be better still.

Hi Mate,
£150 isn't going to get you into the DSLR format new, but you could look on the bay of E for a canon 350d which is perfect for starters, and will get you hooked on photography !!! see milambers pics on here as he has one !
failing that, if you want a compact camera, i personally would buy a panasonic, but i am biased towards leica lenses !!!
if you need any more help, post up later, i'll be online.
good luck

Think that a compact might be better for now or would I be better going with the dslr format although from what you're saying its perhaps over-budget? Either way,any particular cameras you'd recommend?

if you can stretch to it....
this one
http://www.jessops.com/online.store/...6477/show.html
if its too expensive, look down there range a bit.
budget for a few memory cards as well.
Kinquick has a panasonic compact and the pictures are nothing short of exceptional, even with him at the controls !!
compacts do a fair bit of processing when storing the images to get the best from each shot, dslr's dont!! and often require tweaking afterwards (post-processing) but if you want something small and more than capable, i personally would go panasonic.
Not to say there aren't equally capable cameras out there.
Go to Jessops and handle a few, you'll get and idea of build quality, weight, balance in the hand etc.... jessops will often do a deal (like throwing in a memory card or something) as well.

One piece if advice I would offer (and Dazza is the man for wedding photo's) is as you are not the main photographer just go out and break the rules.
Take shots from up high, stand on tables, go to upper floor windows if you can. Get down low, chest height, knee height and even from the floor, stick it on timer and put the camera in a flower pot.
Take shots with the sun behind people etc
Take extra batteries and then take some more. Speak to Bri4n about how it IS possible to take 2,000 shots in an hour.
You may be too busy on the day to do this so rope someone else in to help you.

I managed to pick myself up a Canon Eos 400D for £250 on ebay last week. Ebay Ad said limited use, but when the camera got to me it looked absolutley brand new. I checked the picture count and it had taken 43 photos in total I asked the seller if this had been reset, but she said she didn't know how to use the camera and that was the reason for selling it so soon after she had brought it.
Good deal for me
Also managed to pick up a 70-300mm Tamron lens for £70 to go with it, so it goes to show bargins can be had on Ebay if you know what your looking for.
Baser999 - It does sound like you might benefit from a bridge type camera though. DSLR like but without the interchahgeable lenses. I can recommend the Fujifilm S9600 - I had this one before I upgraded to my EOS and they are great cameras that take some very nice pictures. Again can be had cheaply on ebay - around the £150 mark.
Cheers,
Mav

Got myself one of these a couple of weeks ago.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS33
Initial trials are good and the pics are lovely. A bit more playing to be had yet though to get the best from it.
