Regarding the scoring method, I can see the merits in both options, especially if you get into trouble or have a kart failure i.e. you still have a chance to win.
Personally, I still think a 'race' should be over the duration, rather than a 'qualifying' lap, therefore overall average speed for me.
That said, I am happy just to play, regardless.

Some of the reasons for my idea.....
1. you don`t have to go ***** out for 1/2 hour.
2. Keeping going too fast under yellow flags won`t benefit you.
3. If you have an off it isn`t the end of the world.
4. When you come up behind someone there is no need for the "do or die" tactics to get past straight away.
All of the above will reduce the need for over aggressive driving.
You should get a chance to put in a clear lap within 1/2 an hour and if it isn`t quick enough tough.

Just my observation....
I like Neil's idea of average lap times more than fastest lap. I think it may get boring with one person consistently getting a fastest lap & winning (saying that from someone not likely to get fastest lap ).
With average lap times the race can get mixed up a bit if people have offs but also take on board that we all drive more enthusiastically to do as many laps we can.
Having said all that I turn up & go as fast as I can enjoying the experience but would be nice to know that I may have a chance of climbing the positions now & again
BRI4N
I appreciate you taking the trouble to arrange the karting & will be happy to go with the flow on how you wish to run the event

Andy, not really my idea, that was how George sorted the places.
Brian, I understand the logic behind the suggestion, especially the observance of yellow flags. As said I have my preference but would happily attend which ever option you choose.
Budgie agrees with me, **** I nearly fainted.

But the difference with fastest lap, for example, 1st time we went, last year, I was placed about 17th going on average speed. But on fastest lap, I would have placed 10th. And seeing as you do a similar lap time to me, you would have done better too, so Shush!
Possible Compromise...
How about bonus points for best average speed?

I Like Brians train of thinking as what he said will reduce the need for over aggressivness and now it appears as though George isn`t on board the group might not get away with things as easily.
Also we are only paying for a practise session not a race I know the first time I went I was first out the pits and had nearly completed a lap before everyone had joined the track.
I also noticed that the drivers lap times were very close so the competition could be closer all round.
Also I`d like to thank Brian for taking this on, organising these events is very time consuming and can be stressful at times so a big up for Brian
I`am looking forward to being involved again and will be happy to just be out there so whatever is decided I`m coming out to play again.

Just a thought, but if say in 30mins you can normaly fit in approx e.g. 50 laps.
Why not take the average of each drivers fastest e.g. 30 laps?
I suppose that way if you have an 'off' or a broken kart replaced its not the end of the world as those laps wont count & you also dont need to make each lap a flying aggressive lap either. But you still have to put in fairly consistent laps & be fast to win.

Maybe, but we're still waiting on the results from the last meeting. I could have overtaken you in the standings.

Depends on the session if the mist is up and the flags are out you might only see 27 laps !
Fatty's will always favour lady luck averages and the skill of consistency
Lightweights will always like 30+ chances of putting in a good lap
Either way is fine with me, just good fun at the end of the day.
Will Jackie be spectator as we could do with additional points for style and drifting not to mention bonus points for 'most MSOC offs' in a single lap
