Default Something has been troubling me....

With the new ESOC riding the crest of a wave and the demise of the ESC, one important fact has been sadly over looked. That is, no-one has taken to time, publicly, to thank Tiny & Karen for all the time & hard work they put into the 'Crew' for many years.

We all know that Darren has taken more of a back seat for the past couple of years, and would rather be sat in the middle of the North Sea dipping his rod into the water () instead of doing a wheels off, 5 hour buftying session. But as we all know things and people move on.

So, Big Boy, hopefully members old and new will take a moment to post something up on here and show their appreciation. Face it, without you there would be no ESOC.

Hi ya. I am new to the fold, but yes, sometimes 'originals' get forgotten.

I am sure they did a fantastic job, or people would not be here now.

Lol, nobody has forgotten them mate. Least of all me.
As said on Facebook, I'd dearly love it if Tiny were still running the show.
But as we all thanked them 3years ago and rightly so, others have been and gone too.

So far from "sadly overlooked" as you put it Ed, I personally didn't feel now was the time to re thank someone for a baton that was past 3 years ago.

But anyway, a big thank you to Tiny, Karen and everyone that put so much into the ESC over the years that made it a such a superb place to be.

It has given me many laughs, stories and friends.
All of that I owe to you.

Thankyou xxx

Agree with you Ed. But for the hard work & dedication at all hours of the day or night by Tiny & Karen the ESC may never have got to where it did.

Always willing to go the extra mile to promote & run the various events such that every one was truely an event to remember.

My thanks go to you both & the memories will continue on son. Mum sends her love as well.

I've thanked them before and I'll thank them again

The ESC gave me some truly awesome times and allowed me to meet some fantastic people and go places and take part in events I never thought I ever would.

As Frayz said, I would love it if they, and many others, still had scoobs and we're still an active part of the scene but times and people move on unfortunately, but rest assured, the ESC will live on with some of us forever!

Frayz,

I've given it the best part of a day to give a considered reply. Having gone back through the pages to early 2010 I cannot find any reference to you 'picking up the baton'. The closest I can find is you posting up a thread about a meeting at the Lodge inviting some of the older faces. Other then that, nothing.

As you put it, you've posted stuff on Facebook to thank Tiny et all, but clearly your own FB page (as well as Frayz Engineering) is not as much as a public forum as this site currently is (although FE is always a great read & should have a larger audience )

The whole reason for me posting this thread up was for everyone, especially the newer members, to recognise the hard work, effort, dedication that certain individuals put in long before the current changes.

Blimey Ed you been sniffing the contraband

Tiny retired years ago and we all know what an amazing job he (and Karen) did. So far as I'm concerned Frayz HAS picked up the baton, the site has drifted for a few years and Frays is the only one motivated enough to try and get it back up and running. Not sure he deserves a kicking for it

Mate,

I wasn't giving anyone a kicking nor was it my intention. This was simply a case of a bit public recognition but it has gone off at a tangent.

Anyway, I'm laying off the Class A & B and concentrating on the Class C & prescribed medication

Sorry Ed, not quite sure exactly what all this is about and why it's suddenly come to light now.
Whether this is a personal thing or if third parties are loading your gun to fire. But anything that's taken you over a day to think about in order to post on the Internet to me is obviously no little thing.

If its that significant, why haven't you called me?
Why do it here?
Why not talk to me?

You and I have known eachother a long long time now, and as far as I'm concerned have always had a friendly relationship. I still believe it to be that way.
I've always had high regard for you, and placed you as a level headed guy.
So how on earth are these new people supposed to know about the ESC of years gone by and really why does it need dragging up now?
So much has gone on in between now and then with people doing what they can to keep it ticking along in the meantime.

I've always held Tiny and Karen in high regard and as far as I'm aware are good friends of mine.
To my knowledge, they still are.

But if it ruffles feathers or not, the truth is. People have moved on and nobody has done anything significant to revive the club as it was when Tiny an Karen did such a great job of it back then.
Which they did!

All I've done is attempt to kick start something to try and make the club as good as it was back then! If anything, this is the highest praise for them I can give.
I am trying to put it back in the direction it was when they did it, because they did such a great job.

Like it or not mate. A lot of people are sick of hearing about how great the club was and how poor it is now. How do you think it makes these people feel?
The ESC chapters gone mate, let it be.

So let's make something that we can be proud of once more.

Also, I did not pick up the baton from them 3 odd years ago, it was passed to Brian. Who also gave it a good crack. Other members have also worked hard on events in between time.
But where it went from then I honestly have no idea.

As far as I see it,

I along with some others have picked up a baton that seemingly nobody was holding (and didn't want to hold) and have tried to do something with it.

What's the problem?

Whilst not wanting to become embedded with forum politics... This thread seems to have been designed solely to get a reaction.

This is the most active I have seen the forum for a number of months/years and a lot of it is down to the efforts of like guys like Fraser and Allen.

Whether that be organising meets, cruises and the like or stickers 'n decals or Ron with his great looking photoshop skills and triumphant new tunnel run route.

IMHO members like Lorraine and Jason deserve more praise then members who probably last signed on a number of years ago. They kept the ESC ticking over the last 2/3 years. The Tunnel Run and Southend Cruise probably would have died out a number of years ago without their input.

This has nothing to do with having pops at the longer standing members, I have met original ESCer's and they are always pleasant helpful guys but the best way forward is for everyone to try and make the site as great as it can be in the future, get the community feel back we all keep hearing about like a cracked record and not dwell on past glories.

If members whether they be old or new don't like the site there are thousands of other car forums to join

Frayz,

Believe me there is nobody loading a gun or any underlying issues. You know me better then most on here (having suffered my snoring & smelly feet in Germany ). If I had any sort of issue believe me I would have spoken to you personally, via FB, on here or several different methods.
I hold you in the highest regard. Your engineering skills, attention to detail, engine building capabilities & automotive knowledge are second to none so this was/is not a personal attack on you.

Like I've reitereated above, this was a PUBLIC thank you to those who preceeded you. Nothing more, nothing less.

If that's the case then I apologise unreservedly for the misunderstanding.

If we're saying thank you, then the list is longer than my memory or typing skills.

Tiny & Karen, ESC
Brian, ESC
Phil Stephens, SIDC
Flat Eric, Map man and all out amazing effort
Millamber, countless trips and zoo runs
RB5 286, shows and graphics
Hales, WRC trips
Nate, Wongy & Lorraine, Tunnel Runs

I could go on for days!!

I know I've not even scratched the surface here. Not to mention all the members that for so long bent over backwards to help each other and make all the trips and events such a great place to be.
Every single member that made up the old ESC made it a great place to be. A good number of those including yourself have become, and stayed good friends.

I am lucky to have so many great photos, memories and friends because of the effort all those people put in.

This is why the club deserves to be put back on the map.
Personally I can see no more fitting "thank you" than attempting to continue what these people worked so hard for.

Absolutely

I came in just at the tail end of the 'good old days' and saw the effort and commitment that had gone into creating a great club; it may never be the same again but that doesn't mean it can't be as good, just different. It's great that Frayz is bringing his experience and organisational skills to the new club, and there's plenty of people around now who are going to bring new things to the club while still retaining the old essence of friendship and community.............. Ron, Allen, Scott, Knotty, Andy, sorry if I've forgotten to mention anyone, which I probably have , so here's to them and the ESOC and also to the originators of the ESC

Also to thank you Lorraine ( Our ESOC Mother )

If it weren't for you Wongy Wozza and others ( sorry if i haven't mentioned you ) keeping alive the events that were originally organised by Mr + Mrs ESC, which did put the ESC firmly up there on the car club map

This club might have been condemned to the history books long ago

I only came into this club late Feb 2012.

From what i saw , this was a fantastic club in it's own right , It was a hell of alot busier that the previous club that i was joined to , which only met once a year at ford fair and that was it
But the ESC .... 2008-2012
You still had plenty of people turning up for the saturday night southend run , And the tunnel runs still pulled in the crowds no matter who was running it
Brighton runs were still popular
From what i saw , the club still had potential

That's why i joined

I would also like to say thank you to the original organisers ot the ESC, even thou i don't know you personally , it was your hard work of past that has made and shaped the ESOC to what it is today

A club that is upto date with the current times, which was built upon the hard work, dedication and reputation of the original members of past - in which we all shared the same interest that bought us all together in the 1st place, whatever time we joined

I only made that comment ....... as the organisation of the tunnel run changed through a few hands over the years , but it didn't matter who was running it , It was the fact the ESC name was at the top of the event , that the crowds still turned up in there masses

For a new member like me ! I could not wait to experience it , with the reputation this event had within the club
