Engine Oil
Been running Millers CFS 5/40 for the winter and now due for a change, I have ordered 10/50 from Opie Oils and will this be ok or stick to the same as what I used before or go for 10/40?
Have I order the wrong oil?
Thanks.

Just been on the phone with Opie oils and they have advised me to stick with the 5/40 as this can be used all year round, the 10/50 will make the engine run hotter and due to being thicker place more load on the engine?
So I have a new can of Millers CFS 10/50 that I need to pass on or return back, so I can order the 5/40, the car has been on this for 3k and had several RR visits so my be best to stick with want I know.
If anyone has any comments on this? Or if any intrest in the oil that it seems I may have incorrectly purchased.

Opie always recommend the 5/40 and this is fine for standard/mildly modded engines but you will find that just about all tuners recommend a heavier grade minimum 10/40 and preferably 10/50 The question of viscosity for the Subaru engine has been the subject of MANY threads on here with Opie often criticized for pushing the 5/30 - 5/40 against the findings of experienced tuners and engine builders.
I'd be more than happy to take the 10/50 NT off your hands if you decide to use Opie's recommendation.

The 5/40 will give better protection when cold, but the 10/50 will be more stable when hot & give better protection when thrashed. Most specialists & tuners advise 10/50, you could always use the 5/40 in the winter but I think most people stick with 10/50 all year round.

Sounds to me like the 5W/40 is better when the engine is cold compared to the 10W/?.
So you would have to factor in how much cold running the car does.
ie is it used for lots of short journeys or does it tend to do long ones?
Personally I am inclined to take the advice of the guy who rebuilt my engine, so minimum W weight for me is 10.

Did the oil change today, Millers CFS 10/50 NT and OEM Subaru blue oil filter.
May be me but engine seems to pull better and quieter? From the 5/30 that was in it before

How long ago was the recall? Do you know the batch number?
Got another mapping session in a week or so after my clutch is done next week so see what has changed in regards to BHP
Checked thread that Oilman (Opie Oils) has posted in July this year and states that they have checked their stock and none affected, think I will order the black one and change

Drop the mineral out yesterday and into millers semi synth. Much quieter now. In all fairness I don't think 10w is gonna sap that much power? Is only worth it if your on long hard runs though.
