Default car just cut out

was driving my 1996 sti ra on the motorway today and it just died. there was a little jolt and it cut out. Turns over fine but won't start, seems like there is no petrol getting through. topped up the petrol, no luck. Will start checking the fuel supply now, but if anyone has any good tips on what to look for or what it might be they would be gratefully received.
thanks

Fuel pump wiring. Plug under rear seat. Its pretty common that the plug melts

thanks, do you mean the plug when you lift off the metal (4 screws) cover behind the back seat of the plug directly under the back seat? have checked that stuff and couldn't see anything that looked broken.
I pulled off a pipe leading out of the petrol filter and turned the car over and no petrol came out - is that a definite problem between the petrol filter and the tank?

The plug directly under the seat. Unplug it and look at the terminals inside. Also check it for voltage priming and cranking

immobiliser is a possibility here as well.

If you know what u are doing - you could try running a 12v supply direct to the pump to see if it runs independently..

Also check all the sensors have not become unplugged. Cam sensors etc
