Turbo 2000 missfire, rough running, strong smell of fuel!
Help required please!! Got in my car this morning and its got a bad misfire and running really rough and stinks of fuel, limped it the 3miles to work with it cutting out etc. No check engine light on and no faults stored on a scanner. Had a new genuine maf fitted 2 months ago and its never ran better until today, any ideas?
Its a 99 uk turbo 2000 with a k&n panel filter and full 3inch exhaust from turbo back, cheers guys.

I think the coil packs can break down after time. Your's could be 15 years old.
The fuel smell is perhaps unburnt fuel from the cylinder(s) where the spark is so weak.
I'm not sure if yours would be one coil pack or four.
If it is the coil packs, they can go very suddenly I would think.
Or maybe spark plugs just need changing?

Could be loads of things. Check for fuel leaks first. If you can't find any external leaks then there is probably excess fuel in the cylinder/s. Could be an injector problem, seal gone, no spark, etc.... When you do find out make sure to post the results here as its good to hear the fix in the end. Have a look underneath and see if the fuel is coming out of the exhaust manifold? Check your oil and see if it has been contaminated with fuel.
As had been said be careful. Fuel will go up in an instant and is pretty unpredictable as to when it will ignite due to sparks or heat. Also don't do any damage to your engine. If a cylinder is full of fuel it may lock up and damage the engine.

Thanks for the replies, theres no fuel leaks at all and no fuel in the engine oil. It only has one coil pack, reckon either that or maybe a coolant temp sensor. I'll get it upto richard henrys next week and let them have a look rather than playing the guessing game. Soon as its sorted ill post results back here.

The last plug change was june last year when i first got it, only done about 3k miles since and i put ngk pfr7b plugs in it, its just strange how last night it was fine and this morning its running terribly! Have to wait snd see
