MY00 UK turbo 2000 knock sensor replacement
Hi all, CEL light came on the other day, code says knock sensor. I have ordered a replacement but looking into the diy's I'm a little unsure about a couple of things before I change it. Firstly I can't find my torque wrench, research says tighten the sensor to 24Nm, is this crucial, I know roughly how tight that is but still. Secondly how long of an extension bar do i need to get to the sensor. And finally anything I need to know about taking the intercooler off from what I can see its a few bolts, taking care when taking of the hoses etc. Just worried about all the little things really as I need to get this done this Saturday afternoon.

hi it sits just under the right hand side under the inlet . or right under the coil pack around that area
pretty sure incooler don,t need to come off ..
its a bit fidily but only a 20min job ..
i did mine up hand tight as torgue wrench won,t fit ..
i had a good set of rachet spanners

I replaced mine on my V3 classic. Not the worst job if you have smallish hands and a decent set of tools. I was able to fit mine and torque it correctly in less than half an hour. But I didn't have a top mount intercooler to remove either.
Don't over tighten!!! That will crack the new one. I'd say using a 3/8 drive ratchet would be best so you can't put too much leverage on the ratchet itself. Invest in a 3/8 torque wrench, the amount of jobs I've used mine for has more than justified the cost.

Both those statements are true. If you look from the top of the engine just to the right of the throttle body and underneath the inlet manifold you should see it. Mine had a white connector with a single wire coming from it. It's got a M8 bolt with a 12mm head in the centre of it holding it to the block. It's almost underneath the throttle body.

Job done, taking off the TMIC made it much easier to see the culprit, however refitting was a little a bit of a pain.
Looked at the old sensor and there were no visible cracks, however the bottom of the sensor was corroded so also cleaned the contact surface on the block for new fitment, maybe a clean up of the sensor would had fixed it but effort needed = fit new part.
Thanks all for the help.
P.S
6" thin extension bar make the job a lot easier.
