Default Hydraulic lifters

I know the early ej20 has hydraulic lifters and the later ones don't. The question is what do you class as early and late. I know they stopped doing the ej20 in th blob and mines a 2004 wrx import. So I assume mine isn't hydraulic would I be correct in thinking this?

Thanks

Yep, hydraulic lifters on WRX + STi Phase 1 engines ( except RA ) and went to outer shim for the WRX and under bucket shim for the STi on the Phase 1.5

Your '04 WRX will have outer shim or selective buckets for valve clearance adjustment.
