Default Difference in classic v4 heads?

Hi guys,

Is there any difference between the heads (and can shafts n valves etc) of a classic 1998 v4 sti and a 1998 v4 sti Type R?

Thanks

Some 1997~8 Type R's came with small outer shims as opposed to under bucket shims for the STi V3~4.

Valves should be the same, IH (Inlets) EH (exhausts) and the exhaust valves are sodium filler for better heat transfer.

IIRC, Type R cams have 8.30mm lift on the Inlet and 8.60mm lift on the exhaust.

Thanks Mick, I really appreciate that!

The reason I'm asking is I was told by an engine builder that my type R heads (in particular the cam shafts) are better than standard Sti heads (cam shafts)?

So are you saying they are the same, and the sti ones have same profile and material as my type R ones?

Sounds like I've been told dodgy gen???

Lift is pretty much the same on both types of cams, the difference is in the duration with the type R having slightly more duration iirc, so the info you had was prob correct.

So if I get my engine rebuilt, will it make any difference to my cars performance (1998 v4 sti type r) if I use standard sti cams vs my type r cams?

I'd go by what Mick says he knows his stuff. So I'd say a little less performance with the STI.
Do yours have 1 line or 2 lines on the cams?
