Smile Modifying bugeye

Hi to all on the site

Recently just purchased a wrx 03 bugeye and looking for some guidance on engine mods on car to make, only thing the car has is a toyosport decat down pipe and I've recently just just upgraded the brakes to brembos (the originals will be up for sale)

I stay in Glasgow and if anyone wants to give me pointers and see the car it would be appreciated or just thru the forum

I'm not a daft wee boy wanting to rag the car stupid, just have a daily driver but have the power when I want it, I'm looking to achieve 340 and ideally would be going for a Andy Forrest remap that's switchable but just need a idea of what mods are needed first

Thanks for reading

Thanks for replying, so I know I would be looking at a decat, would that also include the up pipe? The fuel pump would be a walbro 255, the turbo i haven't a clue....bit if researching needed but I'm a engineer so know the basics, injectors to what size tho? 440cc? And the remap after iv got all this fitted

I went from a standard uk wrx 215bhp

to this

Engine/Drivetrain Modifications:

Full Turbo back decat
Blitz Nur Spec S
Ecutek Remap (JGM) 272/278
Standard Discs
Kevlar Performance pads
Goodridge Braided Brake Lines
Dot 5.1 Fluid
Zero Sports Air Intake
Forge Oil Cap
Custom Roger Clark battery clamp

Suspension Modifications:

KYB Ultra SR shocks
Tein S Tech Springs 30mm/25mm
Strut brace
Whiteline Rear 22mm Adj ARB
Whiteline Rear Droplinks
Scoobyclinic fast road Geo set up

Wheels/Tires Modifications:

18in Rota GRA's in Gold

(interior)
Full JDM spec seats (non airbag)
Flocked Dashboard

(exterior)

Colour coded side skirts
HT Auto Splitter (colour coded)
Carbon wing inserts
V7 STi bonnet scoop
black Scoobyworld mud flaps
De badged
De tangoed

as already stated, a full decat exhaust, walbro fuel pump, a decent panel filter (I used the STi one) and a remap (EcuTek) will see you a good 280bhp/torque. the standard tdo4 turbo will be at its limit.. if you want more power you will need to upgrade the turbo for something like a vf34/35 get some STi pink injectors and the STi top mount intercooler you should see around 320bhp with that setup..after a remap.

hope this helps

Very helpful and cracking looking car, I will post some pics up as it's not big standard and does have some mods exterior wise, but the replies have been excellent info, now my last question, am I better to fit it all together and get the remap straight after?

Had a good look underneath the car today and it's got whiteline drop links on all four corners so was happy at that, any other upgrades for that needed?

Also......iv got a full decat from turbo back...looks a 3" so my question is this...do I upgrade the up pipe to a decat then include a cat in the downpipe section? Or just keep it the way it is? Just I'm unsure of the condition of the up pipe and preferably I wanna heat wrap the full thing for protection......thanks

you could add a whiteline ARB to the rear which is a great mod on its own.. I wouldn't bother changing the up pipe unless your changing the turbo.. adding a cat to the down pipe will restrict a lot of the power should you remap it.. either a full turbo back decat or add a sports cat downpipe.. you will get a power increase from a sports cat but not as.much as a decat, that's providing your going to remap

Yeah I will typically be looking to change the turbo to help get my power gains, looking to achieve 320-340bhp, will buy all my mods and change them all when I'm booked in for a remap so a wee while to go.....so that's how I was asking about the exhaust

Alright mate?

Good to see another weedgie on here. Loads of stuff on here, just going through the same process myself on my 01 bug.

For your goal, consensus seems to be:
Decat up-pipe from AS Performance
VF35 or VF34 turbo
STI top mount Intercooler
STI injectors
NGB spark plugs

I have these bits in my garage right now; will get fitted and remapped in 2 or 3 weeks time.

This on top of what I think you already have I.e. Full decat (and wrapped I assume).

Don't know who looks after your car; GI Motorsport in Kilmarnock look after both my Scoobies and they do a great job and really know their stuff. Gary there is a sound guy.

Btw, if you're interested in a VF35 let me know. I bought two because I was thinking about fitting one to my 2010 hatch but looking on here, seems it's not the way to go.

Good luck mate.

Powerwrx My bug eye is running similar figures but with an Allen Jeffries 2.1 stroker, would be interested in a dyno sheet comparison in the torque if you can post a pic.
