Default WRX Boost Cut

Hi All,

Having an issue with my Blobeye WRX, it's running a TD05 16G, 550's, Prodrive Sports cat etc etc etc.

It was mapped by Duncan at Racedynamix a few months ago and it's been great.

But this last week something is playing up, the car drives fine, but as soon as you go to get into boost you can feel it open the wastegate and dump it out. If I disconnect and reconnect the battery it will drive fine for a couple of days then randomly just start doing it again.

No check engine light comes on at all, it runs perfectly fine its just pulling the boost.

Any ideas? Everything mechanical is fine, seems to be ECU related.

Cheers,

Car drove fine all last night and was fine when I parked it. Wife took it out today and its pulling boost again??

It doesn't pull boost as you're driving, it seems after its been parked for a while (over night) it'll then do it the next time it starts.

Has anyone local to Hook in Hampshire got a code reader? I'm thinking it might be a dodgy knock sensor?

Its just running actuator pressure, so no boost control.

Do you know if your solenoid is working?

Its a 3 port, it works fine as far as i can tell. When it's boosting it's nice and smooth. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery brings the boost right back too.

is the car fuel cutting before this happens?

I would try putting 12v through the solenoid to make sure its clicking

No fuel cut, it hasn't done it whilst driving. It's only after it's been parked up over night etc, the next day it won't boost unless you disconnect and reconnect the battery.

It's a bit random .

I've got a cable on order to read the codes with. I'm wondering if my local shell messed up their fuels and it's ended up with some 95 in it or something as it's always filled from the V power pump.

Cable has arrived so I will check the codes later and see what's on there.

Seems to have been driving fine the last few days. Hopefully there is a code stored for something otherwise I'll have no idea WTF happened!

Plugged the car in, there were no fault codes but the IAM was 10. Reset the ECU it went back up to 16. Took the car for a spin with a few WOT runs whilst watching the data, it dropped from 16 down to 14 for a bit, then came back up to 16 and stayed there.

So i'm thinking it was probably some dodgy fuel?

Ok it did it again last night! Redlined first gear, as I'm changing into second, massive bang from the exhaust, then second gear is wastegate pressure again!

Disconnected and reconnected the battery and it was fine for the rest of the 2 hours I was driving it, and it's been fine for about a week prior to last night.

Checked the fault codes, nothing at all, no check engine light.

Could it be occassionally overboosting? Although I wouldn't expect it to overboost in first gear??

Does this always happen after hitting the limiter? Cam sensor can be an issue at high revs but would probably flag a code. I think the misfire this can cause may make it think its detected knock though.

Have you looked up NPS (Neutral position sensor) on here, as this can fail on this age of car and cause funny business (but normally shows up random CEL error codes).

I didn't hit the limiter at the time, was just before. But I have hit the limiter before and its been fine. It seems completely random. Although the IAM was low at 10 last week, its not low enough to cut boost.

I checked the NPS on ecuexplorer and that seemed to work ok. The cam sensor could be just starting to go out and not producing a code yet?
