Default Help, what is it?

Evening gents,
I need some help identifying something under the bonnet. It's round and located by the battery, think it may have a motor is it.

Mine seems to squeal on startup and a burn like smell, both symptoms both disappear after 30 secs or so.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Thats the Secondary Air Pump. As far as I know you don't need it - its just to help the emissions on cold start-up. You can unplug it but the ECU my throw an error code
(?) so can stick a resistor across the plug to keep it happy. A very common thing on Golfs (what I'm more familiar with).
