Starter motor help...
I'm putting a 2.5 WRX engine into a VW bug and need some advice on starter motors....
The engine is fitted with a 5 speed flywheel and the gearbox is from a 98 Legacy GTB, its a TY752 box.
The issue I have is that because its a bit of a hybrid set up, I dont know what starter to use, there are a couple of types, one where the starter pinion is unsupported, and one where it is supported.
Whats the difference between them, is the unsupported type designed to be supported by a bearing in the engine case? and are they interchangeable?
When I run a search, it appears that both supported and unsupported types were fitted to 5 speed gearboxes.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated!
