Default How expensive has your cheap scooby become ?

Ill start;

Car 1999 turbo 2000, £1500, loads of history, loads of money spent, drove really tight etc etc,

Heater matrix went, £75
New Japspeed rad, £150
2nd hand PPP ecu £200
2nd hand PPP Y pipe £40
2nd hand OE airbox £20 got rid of cone
2nd hand OE dump valve £20, got rid of HKS

All running really sweet
Treat it to a service kit £140
Treat it to a wheel refurb, blast and powder coat £280
set of 4 new Toyo T1R's £340
New Godspeed 4 pot calipers, discs and pads £300

Now goes and stops, brilliantly

Nice new refurbed wheels start to crack !! ( poss due to powder coating)
Cheap used set to keep me on road £80
Used set have hairline cracks !!
New set of 17" Revolutions in gold £640

Now sorted and wallet relaxing, just clutch to do...

New clutch, exedy OE £220
While doing clutch dropped gearbox oil and found some bits of teeth on magnetic sump plug

Gearbox currently away at http://www.gears.tv/ having a rebuild.
Expecting £650 / £700 bill

So £3200 + stuff i have forgot on a £1500 car.

Im sure there are plenty more people who have spent / had more problems than me.
No such thing as a cheap scooby. lol
Cheers
Mart.

i have spent a small fortune and still more to come.
The secret is dont keep reciepts.
Have a read about it in the projects threads.
There are some project builds in there that have cost a lot more than mine.

I dont want to count.

2 gearboxes, 4 or 5 different sets of wheels, radiator header swapped the header tank at least twice, etc etc etc.

I've spent more a hell of a lot more than I paid for it, but, I've had it 9 years.

Just think what you would have spent on parts for a cheap French or Italian car for the same money

I deal day in day out with people who loose 12k a year in depreciation on new cars, all cars will cost you money but I would rather spend the cash on my classic as listen to the money falling out of my car sat on the drive

Keep on with the classic . It's not about what u spend . Well ok there is a limit but if u love the car then I would spend £1000 on keeping it on the road.
But some Subaru are cash pits, & are just not worth doing . It's a hard one do u get a new car & things can go with that one. Or keep the car you no . I had a heater matrix gone on me £75 but to take the dash out cost a lot more.
So what do u think u will do keep it or get a new car .

I bought a 'cheap' type r about 6 years ago, was a bit slow on the test drive but seemed ok. Started it cold the next day and it shook like a washing machine with three feet! Turned out it was down on compression, nicely warmed up by the seller for me when I went to buy it.

As a cheap fix it ended up with 2.5 with P1 heads, TD05 20G, lateral injectors, paddle clutch, lightened flywheel, 3" system, k&n induction, power FC ecu and commander, walbro, parallel fuel mod, front mount intercooler and remap at surrey RR by jgm.

I've had mine on the road around a year and a half after importing it from Japan around 7 years ago and already have a large folder of receipts, I really don't want to add it all up but for sure what I have spent would of bought me a very nice bug or early blob STI but I cant really see myself parting with mine anytime soon, there'll be another £500 spent on it in the next few weeks.

To much to think about, god knows how much labour I've saved changing diff prop gearbox engine on a car I've had about a month, atleast when it's built up there shouldn't be anything wrong with it for a while.... He hopes

Yes its a keeper.
I don't begrudge paying for any of the parts iv'e bought so far (exept the powder coated wheels, another story), all the bits i have replaced are either just worn out or old age.
Hopefully when the gear box is back in my car it should be trouble free for a lot of miles.
Fingers crossed

Nice one, a proper enthusiast.

I don't think it will be long before the classic scoobys (good ones) start to go up in value.
With the amount of money needed to keep them in good order, i think will start to push up the prices.

Think about it, who's going to sell there scooby for peanuts after spending twice its value on its up keep, i know i wont, and the demand is always there from buyers... Supply and demand

Yep I think they will go up in price. They are the better looking car .
And like you say the cash you put into the classic is alot to keep it running 100%.
And I no I love my car , I will get some other wheels for mine . But will keep the ones on it now as when looking into my car it's got the standed wheels when it came from Japan. And they are cleen.
