Default type RA oil enquiry...newbie here please help!

hi everyone, im a newbie to the site and to owning a subaru and i need a little help!
I recently bought a car from hurst cars, its a 1998 sti version 4 type ra and i have no idea what oil to use! The car is a fresh import and has covered 89000km with japanese paperwork corresponding. Please could somebody advise me as to what grade of oil to use and where to get a good filter?
Thanks in advance for any help i really dont know where to start!

Welcome to scoobynet. If you have a search round here you will find good advice. I personally use millers oil 10w40 but some use 5w40 or 5w50. All depends on mods and if your going to take it on track? There is a good trader on here called opie. This is his website http://www.opieoils.co.uk/

Hi guys, thanks for the quick responses! Its not for track use its an everyday family car, the only modifications are full 'cusco' front and rear diffs and federal mogul? Gas suspension, the engine is stock, i wanted a stock one so i could do it my way but for now (until the new year) it will remain stock while i save! Where can i find a good filter to fit the car? Thanks again guys and thanks for the warm welcome to your club. Keith.

Hi Keith

As it's standard, I'd go for a 10w-40.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-657-10w-40.aspx

The best ones are the Gulf Competition, Motul 300V, Red Line and Millers CFS. As a cheaper alternative the Fuchs Syn MC, Shell HX7, Motul 6100 and Millers EE/Trident are good choices.

These filters are ideal.

Cheers

Ive had a lot of impreza's i usually stick to if its standard with some hard driving 10w40 if modded road car with some hard driving 10w50 and if its a track only car possibly a 10w60 always used millers cfs or millers nano and you wont go wrong.

Pop down to the SWS meeting on the 13th August, J30 M4 Toby Carvery 7.30pm.

You'll be amongst at least 4 other RA's in Classic and Newage guises
