Default Help please

Hi people hope you are all well, I'm new on here and a big hello to everyone

I bought a Subaru Impreza on a 1997 plate, I've only had it a few weeks,on the test drive it was brilliant, power throughout no loss of power and loved it so much that I bought it.

Now, after driving it on a regular basis I've noticed that the check engine light comes on and the car is hesitent when I put my foot down, as if it's struggling for fuel, but if I gradually build up speed it's fine no hesitancy and it's a pleasure to drive. I only noticed this after I got a flamer kit fitted, I've disconnected this now but the problem is still there.

I would appreciate any advice as it's really baffling me, I've given the car a full service, and changed the spark plugs so far.

Thank you in advance

Could be an issue with the maf or lambda sensor, take it to a subaru specialist who can read the code.

Do this 1st
http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.p...eadingECUCodes

Then this
http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.p...ledge/ECUReset

See how you get on and post up any problems if this doesn't fix it.

Buy a obd reader from ebay for a £10, they can read most/all the codes and it can narrow things down quite a bit. I have a newage though, I dunno if its the same for classics thinking about it.. ...

I've reset the ECU as advised above, but to no avail, it's a shame I was really expecting it to sort itself out, clearly another issue, I've also cleaned the MAF Really good and checked all the pipes for tears or rips all seem ok,

I'll try the Lamda sensor next fingers x and hope it sorts it.

Will update as soon as I receive and replace the sensor.

Thanks guys for the advice

There isn't a fault code showing, the engine check light flashed 3 times when I plugged in the 2 black diagnostic plugs under the steering wheel.

Don't know what 3 flashes mean?

If you look at both links I have posted. One link is for the trouble codes(both black connectors) then count the flashes(short and long flashes) will make up the code........codes are on this link http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.p...odeDefinitions

Then look at the second link I posted which is the ecu reset procedure(both black and both green connectors)

Example...... Three flashes if they are long flash, long flash, short flash _ _ .
This equals 21 which is engine coolant temperature sensor.
Don't think I can explain any better. Hope you get it sorted mate

Thanks ossett appreciate it mate, I'll give it another go and count the flashes and look at the code list, The only other I forgot to mention is that there are no Green Plugs, just 2 black ones.
