Default leaking gasket ?

i'm currently driving a 2003 uk wrx. its running standard other than exhaust.
engine management light has come on and when driven i smell "burning rubber/oil" from the air vents. when the bonnet is open there is a bad smell and slight "smoke" coming from low in engine bay, kind of behind the steering wheel.
oil and coolant appear fine, performance appears fine, there is no over heating.
any ideas what might be wrong.
radiator was replaced a few months back.
