how to tell if a dump valve spring is to soft?
as above, I have a vta bov, and the spring that was in it was to hard, and it would not dump.
I have fitted a softer spring, but I think it way be to soft.
even from very light driving and very light throttle I get the woooosh bov noise, at higher speeds/gears/throttle there is no woosh noise that I can tell.
so is the spring to weak, and I need a stiffer one? any info would be good please
(not the ''you shoud keep the standard recirc bov'' etc) :-)
thanks

Soft springs, aka Baileys are useless, they may give you the sound at no boost but they will leak boost at high rpm.
Harder springs are much better, you may not get much of a woosh, but your throttle response and lag will be much better. Strip it down, and oil the piston up, that will help it move...check you boost pressure, maybe you have a leak in the boosting system somewhere?
To be honest, sounds like you have an Ebay VTA?
