Default VSS signal from ECU 2001 jdm sti

Hi guys i hope I'm posting in the right area!

I'm using an sti engine above in my vw beetle, I have wired it all up but stuck on the VSS.

I have the lead out of the ecu, going to a abs sensor on my subframe. The abs ring is 44 tooth but the sti needs 4 teeth per rev.

I'm question is, can I remove 40 teeth leaving 4 little teeth, but big gap to tooth ratio? I assume the gap to tooth is not important? More the rising edge?

The alternative is to make an external box that converts 44 abs teeth electronically to 4.
But what does the v8 ecu need to see from that signal? 5v being grounded by the abs sensor but what freq?

If anyone has some advice please let me know. Thanks👍👊
