Default New turbo for my Impreza Sti -97

Hello.

This is my first post here. I think I blew up my turbo on my Subaru Impreza Sti Type R -97. So I have been google around to try find a new VF23 turbo and I cant find anything that is affordable. In sweden where I live they will charge me 1500€. Can I find a new one cheaper? Can I find some china turbo that is 100% bolt on, no remap no nothing?

I am sorry for my english.

I would go with something slightly bigger with supporting mods and for budget of 1500€ i believe you can get UK mapper to come to Sweden for propper remap.

Plan b is to get used unit from UK or rebuild yours.

Any different turbo means remap so dont bolt anything else unless you do it.

If mine were to blow I would have to upgrade it. Buy bigger and better :P

But yes if you were to get a different turbo it would have to be mapped again to suit. Your best bet would be rebuild your one or get the same turbo from a breakers.

Is anything bolt on from newer Impreza say from -00 -> -06?
Are those turbos bolt on and can I fit any of those without a remap?

All except twinscroll are bolt on but like i said remap is a must(unless you wanna drive under boost:P).

Btw you can get your car remaped in Sweden as i know my friend did his '08 wrx.

Thank you all.
As I can see it I have 3 options.

1. By a new one for 1500£
Can I find it cheaper in UK?
2. Try to get hold on a used one by advertising here.
3. Get a cheaper turbo and remap.
This is only an option if it is cheaper than 1500£. What do you think, is it possible?

If you have the standard ecu fitted it can't be remapped without fitting a daughter board.

VF23's do come up for sale but you may have to be patient.

Vf 34,35 or 43................300-400
STI TMIC .....................150
FPR..............................100
255l/h fuel pump.............70
Spark plugs NKG pfr 7b ...50
So stage 2 material will cost around 800 punds (and i dont think you gonna spend 700 on mapping) and for that you gonna get totally different animal

Thank you Beliblisk.

Found a VF34 for about 350
I already have front mounted IC so I guess I dont need to do anything there.
Shouldn´t the original fuel pump be OK?
Also the plugs i have now will work. I am not gonna ask for much more than the 280hk I have (had) now.

Before i do a mapping don´t I need a ECU?

You should upgrade fuel pump. You can find group buy of nice shiny ones from SW in traders area.

For front mount IC you should have mapped it already.

You need new ECU as yours cant be maped (with map it shouldnt cost more than 700 pounds). You will be able to find in here on SN market.

You gonna push 330-350bhp with that setup.

Hi.

Thank you very much Beliblisk. I have a few noob questions here so please bare with me ok?

What or who is SW in the traders area? A person or a shop?
The front mount IC was already installed when I bought the car. So this could mean my car already been mapped and already have a ECU somewhere. Got any idea how I can figure that out?
Did you mean that with new ECU and mapping it should not cost more than 700 punds?

Thanks.

EDIT:
Did I do a poo poo? Is the correct english bear with me and not bare with me?

So now I have the turbo in my hands. It is confirmed, the turbo is total. Fully working one day and the next bye bye. I also got a picture of the ECU now and I am almost sure it is the original ECU.

I have another problem now as well. The intake tube (I have no idea what it is really called in english) is damaged so I need to replace it. Can someone please tell me the original partnumber or where I can find one? Please see the picture.

OK so I have to open the silver box to make sure it is not the original ECU.
I thought it said "Apexi" all over the silver box. I will do it all over tomorrow again.

Thank you for all the info. I am a little bit curious why you asked me if it said 8S on the box. It does say 6S but does it matter?

Some ECUs like Simtek/Alcatek are bolt in replacement in standard ECU box....but i think yours is OEM.

Brand new Alcatek costs around 700£ new,map included and it is so much better than standard unit.I had it in my gc8 and it was awesome.
