What do you mean? Heat up or get cold or just start blowing?

Does the car have digital climate control and its on auto? Maybe something to do with the engine needing to be warmed up. My daily driver (Insignia) acts this way when it's on auto.

Default Aircon/heater

Thanks for the reply
No it doesn't have a digital control just the old fashioned turn the *****
Had auto on there though, I wouldn't mind to much but as winter is coming it will take ages to defrost, just trying to find if it does it with any other cars
Cheers scott

Probably the bushes on the blower motor going, not to sure where the motor is on the imprezas but I remember my old s4 used to do it, I used to open and bang the glovebox to get it started as the motor was behind the glovebox, had to change it after a while though. Try to find out where the motor is and give it a quick hit.

This is what I was getting at in my last post, there must be some kind of delay to allow the matrix to heat up or the evaporator to cool down initially.
