Default idle issue driving me mad...help please

Right folks. Im going a bit mad..I have a 99' rb5 and its idling at around 1100 /1200 rpm and has a little throttle hang. When coming to a stop it drops to 1500rpm then eventually 1100 ish. Its recently had a new box fitted and I dont recall this issue before. (Its a new car) it has had a new idle air control valve and speed sensor fitted to the box. I have reset the ecu lots of times and still no joy..however it did idle at 900rpm when I 1st fitted the idle air control valve the other day but thats it..I have no error codes and the throttle cable is all good. The only known fault on the car is what I believe to be a dodgy reverse switch on the box as the reverse lights were constantly on. I have now removed the bulbs until I get a new switch. ..any help would be great guys...im going bloody mental.

have you checked all the vacuum pipes for leaks?
other than that do you have any problems starting her up?

How about throttle position sensor?
What box was fitted,a exhaust back box? Did they unplug any o2/lambda sensors? Or do you mean gearbox? There's a couple of wires coming from gearbox that might need checking.

Hi guys,

It was a new box that was fitted. I purchased the car only a few days before the swap and barely drove it but i don't remember it having an idle issue beforehand.

As I say, it has a new IACV and speedo sensor fitted to the box.

I did have to remove the reverse bulbs due them being on all the time.

I have not yet gone round for vac leaks... I used to have an 05 sti wide track ...this 99 spec rb5 however does sound a bit different....almost like a constant high pitch whistle when on the gas/boost.. im wondering if its a characterictis of having a front mount intercooler.

The whistle noise would suggest you have a leak in the intercooler pipework. Check all pipes, joins and clamps

I assume you mean gearbox? Like i said check all the connections on the gearbox, follow the looms, they connect/ plug into wires at the top of the gearbox under the bonnet where the clutch fork and slave cylinder is.

If up-pipe and downpipe are upgraded you will hear turbo spool more or you may be hearing waste-gate bleeding off excess boost caused from the front mount. Or a leak!
By the way the throttle position sensor is different to iacv. Just generally check all wire connections (have you checked maf sensor) and boost hoses
