Default TD05-16g or VF..

Hi

Quick question, I have a 2004 impreza wrx and I am collecting parts to hopefully clear just over 300bhp. I have bought a TD05-16g turbo and was wondering what I would gain from this or would I be better selling and buy a turbo from the VF range??

Other mods will be: STI up pipe, prodrive sports cat down pipe, afterburner decat cat back with 3rd cat removed, 550cc injectors, walbro fuel pump and 3 port solenoid bc.

Will all the above, turbo included, get me past that 300 number? Not looking for silly figures as dont want to jeopardise gearbox, etc but 320-330 would be nice

I think IC will be limiting factor to go past 300.16g sould be equal to vf34,35 power vise (340-360).
For decent £ you can get STI one.....good for 400bhp.

I'm running a 16g and happy with it, I also believe that the mitsubishi td05 is a stronger more reliable unit at elevated boost levels

With the mods you list, running a VF35, my Blob WRX I made 312.1bhp . That was on the standard intercooler. I ran it in that state of tune for 2 years with no issue. Mine had a full Milltek decat. Mapped by Paul Blamire.

Sorry fellas forgot to say...also getting an STI tmic...I knew I would forget something, the 16g is brand new but are they good for reliability? Power is one thing but reliability is priority no.1 for me

Well depends on the quality as you can eaither get chap china ebay units or lets say SC36 billet for 1k £.

VFs are decent turbos and can work without any issues (other than cracked housing) for many many mikes

just changed out my vf28 for a 16g and a harvey trick uppipe, id say the 16g with the uppipe spools the same if not quicker than the 28 and has a load more punch. the 28 and a harveypipe would be pretty awesome for spool i rekon

So with the TD05 I could be looking at around 310-340? I have read that the TD05's are pretty bullet proof. Is there anything else you think I should add or are the mods I mentioned all I need? Once Ive got everything I'm going to get it all fitted in one go and mapped so the change should be more noticeable

I hope you don't mind me joining the thread as I have a similar query.......except for I'm keen to hear people's views of the VF35 vs VF43.
All the other spec is proposed to be the same but on a 2003 car.
I don't hear much about the VF43 but it's a newer turbo......

Vf35 is good turbo for 330-350bhp.
Vf43 can push a bit more but it is more sutablo for 2,5l engines.

It can be a little laggier on 2.0 but can make up to 370bhp......on my forged 2,5 ill try billet vf 43 in the spring (hoping for 380-400)
