Affects on resale price after colour change respray..
Ive decided I MUST have a white blobeye, and a modified one at that so im not really looking to pay the premium for the spec c to then modify/destroy a rare car in the process. Ive recently spent a small fortune modding my current wr blue 04 sti that ive owned for 4 months and its now at at a decent spec and has good solid mechanicals so ideally this would now be the perfect car but its just the wrong colour.
If i sold my car now as it stands then i would be taking a fair loss after just spending out on all the mods and then have to pay out again to mod my new replacement higher priced white blobeye if i can find one. I can get a decent respray for between £1500-£2000 and as white blobs are rare and desirable im guessing respraying the car wouldnt have a negative affect on the resale value if done to a good standard and may even have a slight premium ??
Im guess im trying to justify the price to myself, Any sensible opinions welcomed
ps... im not interested in getting it wrapped as a decent job isnt far off the price and the finish will never be as nice.

Take plenty of photos before you paint it and during the process. This will show any buyer that it wasnt painted because it was hit. If its a good quality job theres no reason it should affect value.

If your going to do it I think it needs to be a full colour change and that will cost more like £4k for a top quality job, otherwise you may as well just pay £1200 for a wrap.

Ive only ever once changed the colour of a car, a 1990 escort cabriolet from white to pearlescent maroon and although i still lost money by painting it, it then sold for a premium and no negative affect when i came to sell it on, quite the opposite in fact. To get my car cosmetically mint i would be looking at a £500 to £1000 bill anyway to remove all dings, stone chips and scratches so an extra 1K on top i could have it in the colour of my choice..
In general would you be put off potentially buying it or could it make the car more desirable and therefore add a small premium ??

I just hate looking at cars that haven't had the boot, under bonnet door shut's and arches done when resprayed, so my thinking is if it's going to be a half arsed job then may as well be a wrap which is reversible and save a couple of grand too, if I were to do it I'd have to have it fully stripped out and painted on a spit and looking like new, the whole hog or nothing.
