Default Sti Spec D - will she go boom?

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum but have been following some threads quite closely - there are some interesting opinions on here!

I recently purchased a 2006 STi Spec D with 80k on the clock and all the usual documents.

The car itself is a minter despite initial concerns (we suspected an oil leak but further inspection indicated the somebody may have spilt oil on to the engine cover!)

The car itself suffered from ringland failure and a cracked piston at 22k and under went the warranty work needed to get this replaced. It then went back with a misfire at 31k and had the ECU reset and hasn't had a hitch since.

My question to you guys is 2 fold -

1) What are the chances of the dreaded ringland/piston/head gasket failures occurring again? (I have set the rev limiter to 6k to help reduce the risk of hitting off the red line and causing the detonation issue)
2) If it were to happen again (touch wood) how much is a partial rebuild going to cost? I would want to go the route of forged pistons, cosworth head gasket and ARP studs (unless any of you gents would have better suggestions?)

Chances of ring lands or head gasket going are the same as before, and your looking at around £3.5k for a forged build. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

There's nothing you can do to prevent it. Just the luck of the draw I'm afraid.
