Uk Turbo 2000 TD05 20G
Hi guys just a quick question
Thinking of buying a Td05 20g for my year 2000 Impreza turbo 2000.
I no my car has 440 injectors and my standard ecu is mappable. It is also decatted.
What else would the car need to safely run a TD05 20g
Thanks

Millage says 163k but had engine change for engine with 90k on it about a year and half ago. No problems with cooling etc. What bhp would I see from the car with upgrades mentioned

Just thought of something else that will wipe the smile OFF your face.
When I modded mine, I was told that turbo produces quite a bit of torque, so I had to go 6-speed to enable it to handle it, or risk wrecking the gearbox.
Mine is a 2.5 mind...might be different on a 2.0.

Well, my MY99 STi 5's std EJ207 engine and box have, so far. With around 50k on the clock.
But my engine differs from your EJ205 in that my STi pistons are forged (that said, that's not saying much).
I'd leave a float of around £2-3k in your bank if you're gonna go ahead - as it will ease the pain if either blows up...!

You'll need at least 550cc injectors (what I've put in). The std 440s will only get you to around 320-340bhp max.
550s, cleaned and flowed, should be good for 380-420bhp (within the remit of the 20g).
If you've got the cash burning a hole in your pocket then it would be a wise move to go to 6-sp. But what about doing what I am - using the std 5-sp and waiting to see what happens? (In the meantime you can be saving for a 6sp.). You never know, like me, you might get lucky and get serious miles out of the 5-sp.*
* I do not launch or do mental fast gearshifting though -- that's worth bearing in mind, as to what you decide what to do...

In my opinion you'd be mad to run a 20G on a standard 100K UK turbo engine.
I'd be surprised if it lasted 6 months if you ran the 20G to its full potential.
Your engine is the limiting factor here, not just the box. I ran a 20G at over 400 on a 754 box for quite a while and it's still going strong for the new owner a year on.
Let me guess, you've seen the 20G's going cheap on ebay ??

Yeah, all that said, I do tend to agree with Matty.
Put it this way, if I had your car, I probably wouldn't do it.
If I was hell bent on wanting more power, then I'd prob stick on a VF28 and get mapped to around 320-330bhp (or whatever your 440s end up making) - and, of course, proportionally less torque than the 20g would make (prob c.290-300 lb ft on the 2.0). As it's the torque (rotating force) that destroys the box.
Don't forget, anything over 315bhp will be over 100bhp, and nearly 50% extra over what you're running as std!! I had a '93 WRX saloon remapped to the tiny OEM TMIC's limit (282bhp in my case), and it felt great on its OEM TD05H 16g. A VF28 spools even slightly earlier than those, so your car would be well fun to drive.
Or you could simply get remapped on your OEM TMIC/440s/TD04L -- you'll end up with a super-spooling 280-300bhp bag of fun, I reckon. And at minimal outlay, to boot.

I had my last uk turbo modified to
440 injectors
Decat
TD05 16G
Apexi fc ecu
Mapped by jgm
It just didn't feel like a massive improvement for some reason

Strange that you weren't 'impressed' going from 208/215 to c.270+... I went to 282 - but started off with the std 237 - and still noticed the extra torque, power and driveability.

thank you for all the reply's! I think i have come to the decision of keeping my TD04 on and having it mapped.
what other mods could i do to the car to see the best out off it. what BHP will it roughly bump me up to.
thanks again guys

Decat downpipe and exhaust system, fresh panel air filter (or uprated like K&N or Green), uprated fuel pump, new OEM fuel filter.
EcuTEK existing ECU for the remap... Or a replacement ESL daughterboard. If you go the latter, you can get the speed density MAP-based version which means you can junk the (sometimes fragile) MY99/00 MAF.

I'm in the same boat as yourself, i decided to get my Impreza remapped.
Was aiming for 280bhp which is what my wrx v1 was running standard, that thing was metal, but been told on standard turbo can expect 278bhp tops.
Engines done 86k, was thinking of upgrading to TD05 turbo off wrx and 440 injectors, to get it around 300bhp.
Still not deceided what to do, but having cambelt done and rear arches first, then remap next so got abit of time to decide
