Closed deck Motor Build
Hey all, just wanting to know a bit about bearings and subaru cranks.
the motor i have is a roughly 1990-91 closed deck motor from an rs turbo. the crank i have is from a b4 liberty motor "ej208". now the crank has a shorter stroke than the original rs turbo one and it also had forged pistons, rods etc. it fits perfectly into the rs turbo block (as you would think) but the motors have a difference in main bearings and there placement, does this mean i am not able to use this crank? can post crank numbers if this helps

If the bearings on the crank have the thrust in No. 5 position you need to have the block machined to accept them- AS Performace can do this. The stroke should be the same, there are only 2 differnt strokes in the turbo engines 75mm (2.0) and 79mm (2.5)

If i recall, the thrust bearing is in the middle of the closed deck and on the open deck later motor it is on the end towards the rear main, sorry i am quite new to this and un sure of numbers. So it is possible i have a 2.5l crank?

all of the cars from around 1997/98 switched to rear thrust - crank position #5
early blocks can be easily machined as mentioned above and we undertake this on a regular basis for individuals and other tuners alike
