What would a GT30 be like @ 350bhp ?
I know I know this seems like a mental question... but basically I am asking on behalf of a good friend who's turbo has unfortunately died (Currently has a VF35)... now he is in the process of saving for a 6speed & Forged engine and says he isnt far off... so obviously he needs to buy a new turbo to replace his broken one, but he doesn't want to buy a turbo now and then have to buy another once he has his new forged engine etc so is thinking about buying the billet GT30 now and running it on a modest map to keep it below the WRX's 350bhp capabilities? just wondered how bad it would be? if it was doable what sort of boost would be required for 350bhp? 1 bar?
Thanks for any help.

Hi there
Are you thinking to run this GT30 as stock location or twisted ?
We are made at 35R at 0.7bar 404bhp I think,on 1.4bar we are made 490bhp,then we are went with Scoobyclinic GTX30R
I would suspect 1bar will be enough, but can be laggier, this depends on more factors there, but can be surprisingly good too,I've seen older AET GT30 standard location turbo on WRX and this turbo has have awesome spool on 2.0L WRX
Hope this helps
Thanks,Jura

He is unsure at the moment of rotated or stock location, I have recommended rotated setup to him a few times now and he is considering it... he was thinking gt30 or SC42...
His spec is roughly...
Stock 2.0 wrx engine at moment (Non AVCS)
550cc injectors
GT spec 3 bolt headers with external wastegate setup
FMIC
RCM induction kit
full 3" decat turbo back
Does less boost make a turbo laggier? I would have just thought it didnt "kick in" as strongly?

Hi there
Both turbo on NON AVCS can be laggier, better heads can only helps with faster spool up.
Twisted/Rotated setup is better option if he wants to in future up the bhp
But really depends on his plans and really I would go with turbo for now which should make that power 350bhp(good old TD05-16G) and then think on bigger turbo when engine is build and 6 speed is fitted
Hope this helps

Our T36 hybrid would be a good option. Direct bolt on for 380-450hp and runs nice at low boost too.
Ran one on a 2.1 this week that made a nice safe 300/300 at just 0.7 bar and it drove very well indeed.

seen quite a few vf35' selling for £250 nowadays, mine included. with turbos i would say is one of them parts which is not going to loose it's value: buy it now for £250-300 and a year later you will still sell it on the same money or why not, for a bit more in the £250 case.
