Exclamation High temp! - Hawkeye STI

Hi all,

Some of you may have read my previous thread about my car overheating.

Following a radiator seal going, replacing the rad, replacing the temp sensor, thermostat, burping the system 100000 times and now having the heads skimmed and fitting Cosworth head gaskets (passenger side had gone on the bottom), my temperature still sits on the high side!

Worth noting:

My fans do kick in - (fitted a switch just so I can control to ensure this! - Haven't used as I've managed to hear them - just!)
I have an aluminium radiator
I have all new Japspeed coolng fans
The thermostat I have was an ebay special - (is for my car, just ebay) closing temp at 77oc - (unable to find correct closing temp anywhere! - I have just got the car running and am knackered, may just be me)

I did come across this:
http://http://www.japspeed.co.uk/cos...hermostat.html

Which as you can see closes 10-15oc sooner than stock to maintain a cool temp.

My question is, am I barking up the right tree thinking it's the ebay special thermostat and if so, is it worht paying £94 for this Cosworth one?

Thanks..

Car: Hawkeye Impreza STI - EJ25

What's wrong with a genuine Subaru thermostat with the correct closing temp? Surely that's cheaper than a Cosworth and better than a eBay special.

Won't matter how many times you've burped the system, if it's airlocked, chances are it still is.

As for head skimming, I sincerely hope you used thicker gaskets to compensate?

Of course I got a thicker gasket after getting the head skimmed!!

I replaced every single gasket, had all my valves checked (clearances and pressure) the whole ordeal.

The ebay special, was actually a gates thermostat, which I got simply due to next day delivery, as opposed to 5 working days from Subaru.

The thermostat I removed - (inner seal had gone) was a genuine one which closes at 78oc, where as the gates closes at 77oc.

I'm still not convinced and the only thing I can think of is either an air lock -(not sure how!) or a gauge fault.
