Default Help Strange Vibration

HI My 04 Impreza STI has developed an intermittent Vibration.

It occurs under evry hard acceleration only.
You feel it more through the car than do through the steering wheel, and it when it starts it stays until you brake hard or slow right down and then goes away completely.
It starts anywhere between 60 and 80mph under what I would say as full throttle acceleration up through the gears.

BUT the strange things is that it does not happen if I accelerate gently or drive normally to and at the same speeds plus there is no wheel wobble what so ever under braking. so I believe this cancels out warped discs or unbalanced wheels.

I can only guess it might be a drive shaft joint or something !!

Any advice would be appreciated

Regards
Ian

Have you checked propshaft centre bearing?

Had a similar problem many years ago, not Subaru related. One of my rear tyres deformed causing vibration through the car.

Generally speaking vibration felt through the car is caused by something Central or rear end related, vibration mainly through the steering wheel, front end related.

Hi Ian,

It's one of those problems than can take ages to sort and if not careful throw money at replacing parts only to find the problem was something simple and cheap in the first place.

I see your Gloucester based, you can't be far from Powerstation in Tewksbury? If all else fails try these guys, I use them for setting up geometry.

Hope you get it sorted

Gary

Hi Gary

I have been to powerstation a year or so ago when I first bought the car to have it power tested and quick once over to make sure I hadn't bought a lemon !!

You are right about the bills mounting up, I have already put a lot into the car after purchase getting it back to being presentable and having as all service work done (clutch, cambelts, pulleys, all fluids, plugs etc) for peace of mind.

Powerstation is my next stop to get it looked at but I want to research up on a few possible tasteful handling upgrade for road use ie bushes, drop links and even shocks maybe and then get them all done at the same time, but I am trying to keep the car as stock as possible (04 UK STI PPP).

One again I appreciate the advice
Ian
