My 1999 impreza non turbo just wont start it turns over and the cambelt moves with every attempt but it just wont start iv put in a brand new battery and it's just got a brand new set of Pirelli's so I'm a little frustrated by this and my lack of knowledge

It could be any number of things like fuel pump, camshaft or crank sensors, ignition coil, MAF sensor to name a few. Have you got a check engine light lit on the dash? You really need to read the diagnostic information from the car. The tool used is very cheap and can be bought from eBay. Maybe one of your friends will have one? Ask around!

Thanks mate. Anyone got any digrams and tips on how to test for a fix each of those problems?
I prefer and enjoy doing as much as I can myself when possible
And yes piehole the check engine light is on does that nrrow down you list a bit?

Well the check engine light would almost certainly indicate a fault with any of the sensors, you'll need to get the fault code. See this link:

Have you done any work on the car ? If so, was the car ok before the work?

No just new tyres and a new battery was working fine last week. Just stopped working. And I can't seem to get my hands on a obd 1 scanner either. Also the check engine light goes of when its firing

Dont need an obd just follow the link that was posted and check the fault codes via the eml on the dash
